This is an important debate. For me personally X is no longer a space I feel I can advance equality and tackle racism and discrimination in a meaningful way. My time and effort is better spent in the communities where I can make a difference - and as a director of an NHS trust, that time and effort is first and foremost to the people working in the organisation I help to lead, and the communities that organisation serves. Social media at its best democratises power, enables scrutiny and promotes engagement. At its worst it spreads dangerous disinformation, emboldens hate and extremism, harms individuals and damages society. It is an easy decision to make as an individual - my personal view is that the balance on X has tipped from the ability to do good, make positive change through engagement and build community; to something destructive and fuelled by hate and anger. Organisationally it feels complex - we have a duty to engage and to be open to scrutiny. And we have an ethical imperative to stand for equality. In fact these are all also legal duties. It is certainly time to evaluate the purpose of our platforms and to develop a deep understanding of who they reach and how they serve our communities. #communications #socialmedia #equalityf
???? Read my recent comment piece in the Health Service Journal (HSJ) that addresses some of the steps the NHS should take to ensure our ethnic minority staff and communities feel safe and valued in light of recent events. I also delve into the debate around the NHS’s presence on X (Twitter) ….Should the NHS remain on a platform that does not align with its core values of inclusivity and respect? This is a debate worth having I think…. (click this link to read without a HSJ subscription)?????????????? ?? https://lnkd.in/erKKtzFR #NHS #Diversity #Inclusion #Healthcare #Racism #Community

As we approach the conclusion of National Minority Health Month, it is vital to reflect on the persistent challenges and progress in tackling transportation insecurities that significantly impact health outcomes for minorities. At MedHaul, our dedication to this cause reminds us daily of the direct connection between transportation and health equity. Transportation insecurities hinder access to essential healthcare services, affecting everything from routine medical appointments to emergency responses and long-term treatment adherence. They also play a significant role in nutritional health, as many individuals in underserved communities find it difficult to access grocery stores that offer healthy food options. Moreover, the stress and isolation caused by inadequate transportation options can exacerbate mental health conditions, creating a cycle of health and social disadvantages. Our mission goes beyond acknowledging these issues during National Minority Health Month; it is about creating sustainable change. Our? commitment drives us to innovate and advocate for better access to care for all communities, every single day. #minorityhealthmonth #minorityhealth #healthequity #accesstocare #NEMT #healthoutcomes #sdoh #driversofhealth

As National Minority Health Month draws to a close, it's important to reflect on the significant challenges and strides made in addressing health disparities, particularly those exacerbated by staffing shortages in healthcare within minority communities. At A Traveled Path Homes, we are dedicated to resolving housing challenges for traveling medical professionals, which is a critical step towards reducing these disparities and enhancing health equity. Staffing shortages in healthcare facilities often hit minority communities the hardest, where the lack of adequate medical personnel can hinder access to necessary care. This situation is compounded when medical professionals face housing issues, making it difficult for them to remain in or relocate to these high-need areas. By ensuring these professionals have stable and affordable housing, A Traveled Path Homes helps maintain a consistent presence of skilled caregivers in communities that need them the most. Our mission this month, and every month, is not just to acknowledge the problems but to actively work towards creating sustainable solutions that promote health equity. By focusing on the housing needs of traveling medical professionals, we aim to directly impact the health outcomes in underserved communities, ensuring all individuals have access to quality healthcare, regardless of their zip code.

April is National Minority Health Month—an important opportunity to raise awareness about inequities and disparities in our minority and underserved populations. Founded by Booker T. Washington in 1915, this week was originally called National Negro Health Week (NNHW). NNHW was recognized until 1951, and then formed the basis for the health-focused observances we celebrate today. Working with a diverse patient population often highlights the importance of speaking out against the devastating injustices that minority populations often face that can severely impact health outcomes. Today I vow to follow in the footsteps of the physicians of my father and grandfather’s generation to be a resource for care, support and patient advocacy. Unfortunately, our generation still faces many similar obstacles as those before us, but there are many ways to help improve minority health disparities. I recommend starting with the acceptance of the following concepts: 1)?Health disparities exist with minorities having higher rates of chronic diseases. 2)?Minorities and the underserved face more barriers to healthcare access—lack of insurance, limited availability to providers and cultural/language barriers. 3)???Social determinants of health like poverty, healthy food access and safe environments factor into health outcomes. 4)???Cultural competency helps to support equitable care and improve health outcomes. 5)???Minority communities are positively impacted when community engagement and empowerment is sought. Let’s all bring awareness to these important facts and advocate for more action to promote whole community health and wellness during National Minority Health Month! #SourceForBetterHealth, #MinorityHealth, #NMHM24, #HealthEquity, #SDOH, #PatientAdvocacy #FamilyMedicinePhysicians

Public trust in health institutions has been declining, raising critical questions about the root causes. Historical betrayals left lasting scars on communities. Mixed messaging during crises, such as shifting guidelines on masks during COVID-19, created confusion. Political interference has further blurred the line between science and agendas. But distrust isn’t inevitable—it’s a challenge to address. Transparency, accountability, and community engagement are essential to rebuilding trust and strengthening public health efforts. What do you think health institutions can do to restore trust? ?? Dive deeper into the blog here: https://lnkd.in/gt3gp4PC #PublicHealth #Trust #HealthInstitutions #Transparency #CommunityEngagement
