This sounds like trite B2B nonsense garbage...
... but it's not.
I started out my medical legal consulting business with a "service offering" in mind. I thought I knew my customer well enough to design exactly what they needed.
I was close... really close...
... but not everyone needs the same thing.
There are as many ways to work up a pre-litigation medical malpractice case as there are medical malpractice attorneys. They've all developed a system that works well for them. It's not perfect... but it gets the job done.
Within each system are a few obstacles that consistently bring frustration, delays, and uncertainty.
I've learned to stop "selling" my services when I have the opportunity to speak with a potential client. Instead, I do my best to listen and understand the obstacle for which they need a collaborating partner.
If I feel I can effectively, ethically, and affordably help solve the problem, I find a way to make it happen.
Not every attorney has the exact same obstacles, but there is plenty of overlap... Enough of an overlap for me to build a service offering that provides for a relatively successful consulting business that I enjoy.
I get DMs just about every day asking how I got into this work... how could a physician get started doing it... etc...
This is my standard answer... "Doctors help people solve their medical problems by listening to their pain points and then finding a way to diagnose and solve the issue... just do the same thing for attorneys."
So... is "Don't offer a service... solve problems" a worn-out, trite concept?
Maybe... but it doesn't make it any less true.
