No country in the world operates a passenger rail system without public support. So why do we expect Amtrak to make a profit? Transportation is a public good that improves the local and regional economies and improves the lives of residents. Of course we should be cautious high operating and capital costs. We should be wary of excessively inefficient operations. And we should avoid overbuilding. But if highways are never expected to make a profit, public transportation shouldn’t be either. #transportation #publicgood #amtrak

Within the framework of the tripartite Administrative Arrangement, a hybrid working meeting was held today 29 January 2023 between the European Union Agency for Railways, the DG MOVE European Commission and the OTIF - Intergovernmental Organisation for International Carriage by Rail. ??The common objectives : more international trains, more harmonisation of rules for the railway sector and ever closer cooperation.
