I am pleased to announce our publication in journal of cancer policy:?"Towards Promoting a Legal Framework for Ending Discrimination Against Cancer Survivors: A Human Rights-Centered Approach,"?co-authored with Prof. Fran?oise Tulkens, former Vice-President of the European Court of Human Rights, and Grazia Scocca, Legal Expert. The article looks at the critical role of the?Right to Be Forgotten (RTBF)?for cancer survivors through a human rights perspective. At its core, the RTBF is indeed about safeguarding?human dignity, equality, and privacy—principles enshrined in the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights. Denying cancer survivors access to loans or insurance undermines these rights, creating barriers to societal reintegration, financial independence, and well-being, while perpetuating stigma. While we highlight progress at the European level, including?Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan?and the?Consumer Credit Directive, which seek to address these challenges, much remains to be done. A?harmonised, binding EU framework with a clear timeline?(of 5 years) is urgently needed, as we argue in the text. ?? Access the article for free until 31 January 2025: https://lnkd.in/eN2vqTrE #HumanRights #CancerSurvivors #Dignity #Equality #EndFinancialDiscrimination #ProtectCancerSurvivors

Missed it live? See the recording of the recent VCCC session "Using human rights for cancer control", a deep dive into how human rights law can be used to progress prevention and control in Australia. With insights from McCabe Centre for Law and Cancer’s Tarishi Desai, Daney Faddoul, Human Rights Law Centre; Natalie Maxwell-Davis, Community Representative; and Phillip Parente, of Epworth Eastern Medical Centre and Co-chair of Cancer Council Victoria's Clinical Network Executive Committee. Chaired by our Director, Hayley Jones, the practical impacts of human rights protection on those with lived experience of cancer and the work of cancer clinicians, was explored, as well as the following: - How all aspects of cancer prevention and control are human rights issues – yet these principles are underutilised in policy and advocacy framing. - Opportunities for the cancer community to understand the benefits for cancer control and people affected by cancer, with the human rights landscape in Australia evolving. - How a human rights framing can provide cancer advocates with a lever to hold governments to account on their obligations relevant to cancer. - Resources to find out more about human rights and cancer control in Australia and organisations that protect and promote human rights in Victoria. For 4 years I have patiently fought my legal cases and pursued the un-investigated protected disclosures against the Christie NHS. Now it is time to talk and share with the public what went wrong? How deep is the corruption in the Christie NHS? The similarities between this and the Post-Office Enquiry. Why did NHS England fail to protect me, patients, the wider public and other staff? Why The Labour Party must pierce the corporate veil of Foundation Trusts if we are to, not only restore, but strengthen our NHS? And fundamentally why was no one holding anyone accountable when public money was being poured into solicitors instead of building health services? The truth of why cancer services are failing across the UK. We’re committed to improving women’s health by giving life science researchers and clinicians the tools to dive deep into the drivers of women’s cancers. With high-quality real-world data that details the true impact of these conditions on all women – especially those who are currently underserved by the healthcare system and disproportionately feel cancer’s burden – we strive to close gaps in care that harm too many women today. We’re particularly focused on improving understanding of ovarian cancer with our real-world dataset – a topic that C. K. Wang, MD. spoke about in a new article in The Cancer Letter. Studies have shown significant disparities in ovarian and breast cancer outcomes between Black and white women, but researchers aren’t entirely sure why these inequities exist. COTA has made a concerted effort to expand our database in ovarian and breast cancer to begin to answer these important clinical questions and close care gaps. Read more in The Cancer Letter https://lnkd.in/e597tDAn Many thanks to Claire Marie Porter for her in depth reporting on this topic. #RWD #ovariancancer #breastcancer #womenshealth #oncologyresearch
