Advocating for more Socio-Economic Development (SED) and less CSR/CSI as we build a resilient community and future, our Social Impact and Sustainability Lead Wanetsha Mosinyi who was speaking at the inaugural CSR Summit 2024, highlighted that SED does not attract immediate popularity, as it requires long term investment, both in resources and time. Delivering a masterclass titled ‘???????????????? ?? ???????????????????? ??????????’, Wanetsha focused on innovative approaches and strategies, exploring new opportunities, and providing compelling case studies. He buttressed the need for organizations to utilize tools such as Theory of Change where companies need to first determine long term impact in order to ensure sustainability of projects. Wanetsha highlighted three steps towards building a purpose led brand as 1) Believing in the power of purpose, 2) Acting with intent and 3) Connecting with Consumers. Spotlighting Okavango Eternal - a Building Forever initiative that demonstrates De Beers Group commitment to sustaining livelihoods and protecting the natural world, while telling the Botswana natural diamond story to the world - he also shared the idea of infusing inspiration from nature to influence jewelry design. A classic case in point is the Enchanted Lotus High Jewelry Collection which drew inspiration from the lotus flower for its natural beauty and symbolic meaning. The lotus flower is found in abundance in the famous Okavango Delta and every time a purchase is made a connection is made with the people of the delta.
