Public art is a reflection of our cultures with diverse meanings for the communities that interact with it. In all its forms, public art provokes reactions from the public. Conserving it is a complex process that involves different actors, with local communities playing a significant role in creating, assigning values, advocating for what needs to be preserved and, in some cases, conserving what is valued. Also important is the relationship between public art and museums. 'Public Art Inside and Out, which will take place in a hybrid form, aims to include a wide variety of professionals to exchange ideas-from practitioners to researchers and academics, artists, art historians, curators, conservators, architects, city planners, policy makers, collectors, benefactors and institutions procuring public art. Registration for in-person and online participation will close on 30th April. Read the full program and get your registration via the link in the comments.

Check out this post from one of our recent graduates, Emily Zarse!
I'm over the moon that the amazing Hettie Judah is visiting Bloomington this week! Her book "How Not to Exclude Artist Mothers (and Other Parents)" offers so much support and insight. Stars aligned and The Kinsey along with Arts and Humanities Council is hosting a conversation with Hettie this Friday May 10th 6pm at The Bishop- which is right across the street from my new collaborative exhibit exploring art and mothering with painter Gloria Manzanares. Come out for what is to be an amazing talk and stay after when we'll lead an informal gallery tour of the exhibit "Creative ReProduction" at the John Waldron Arts Center. Talk is 6-7:30pm and tour to follow. Spread the word and check out Hettie's amazing body of work including new book “Acts of Creation”

Give a senior a can of spray pain and a blank wall, the following will happen: It will bring the senior closer to a form of artistic expression usually associated with the younger generation. It will prove that concepts such as ACTIVE AGING and intergenerational solidarity make more sense every day. It will demonstrate that age is just a number. Taken from the thread entitled, “LATA 65 | urban art workshop for seniors” @ https://lnkd.in/gueGxds

A joy to watch this film. Joy is one of the 10 essential threads of Original Learning - many of the other threads were being mentioned such as risk, time, imagination, interaction, wonder etc Also play. Play is at the heart of children being able to explore their fascinations - an atelier of this kind allows people to play with art materials - to really get to know them. That children with disabilities are being prioritized is fabulous - because if it works for them it usually works for everyone. Recent reading though is making me seriously question the word "special" though - and as an autistic person I have never particularly liked "special rights" - I have the same rights as everyone else - not special ones. Some children/adults need extra support/resources/time in order to access their rights. Special can make it feel a little othering at times. Maybe instead of special school it should be inclusive school? Maybe instead of special needs education - inclusive education? Or rights based education or educational support or? But there definitely needs to be more spaces like this where adults/teachers can practice teaching for/with learner autonomy and can not just know about it, but actually understand it - learning by doing

Art is innate to all humans, but it is today mostly framed as decorative business. The Fifth Element initiative by The Club of Rome questions this framing and enquires into the role of art in bringing about a societal transformation. We work with the Future Of Work Foundation and other partners to help humanity emerge from our current crises into desirable futures through art. Learn more ?? https://lnkd.in/dgg4VCSc
