What is the role of schools? Is it simply to educate, prepare students for exams, and ensure university placements? At AIS, we believe it’s so much more. Schools should inspire students to be compassionate global citizens, approach the world with curiosity, and ask themselves, How can I make a difference? As Nelson Mandela said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” True education doesn’t just teach—it nurtures values, builds character, and empowers students to contribute meaningfully to society. Working with Barbara Lee and her incredible mission at Child at Street 11 Ltd has been a humbling reminder of the transformative power of education. Barbara’s dedication to giving every child an opportunity to thrive and break the cycle of disadvantage is awe-inspiring. Seeing this aligns deeply with what we strive for at AIS: fostering an education that nurtures Respect, Opportunity, and Achievement for every child. A special thank you to Trent Green for leading this initiative, Farhana Suhaimi for quickly pulling together a powerful video, and our amazing Elementary School student leaders for embodying our core values: Respect: Celebrating diversity and the unique potential of every child. Opportunity: Offering avenues for growth and supporting communities through meaningful actions. Achievement: Making a tangible impact through compassion and leadership. As I witness the incredible work of our AIS teachers, I can only hope that the children at Child at Street 11 receive the same opportunity for an education that sets them on the right path. Charity begins at home, but its ripple effects can reach far beyond. Together, we can make a difference. ?? #EducationForChange #GlobalCitizens #AISRespectOpportunityAchievement
At AIS Elementary, we’re excited to support Child at Street 11, a wonderful organisation nurturing children from all backgrounds, through our Festive Arts & Craft Donation Drive. With our 4 houses (Lachlan, Murray, Fitzroy and Derwent), our students can each pick an item to purchase from our Festive Giving Wishlist, wrap it with care, and bring it to your classroom’s collection box. Together, let’s bring joy and spark creativity with every gift of art supplies we collect! ??? When: November 11 - December 5 Let’s spread festive cheer and support the children at Child at Street 11 this holiday season! #WeAreAIS #AustralianInternationalSchool #FestiveGiving #StudentLeaders

Five words changed everything: "Because no one ever asked." Ten years ago, those words from a trafficking survivor inspired Detective Bill Woolf to create the Just Ask Prevention Curriculum. What started around a kitchen table now protects 250,000 students annually. Today, on #GivingTuesday, we're thrilled to announce that Anti-Trafficking International has joined the Safe House Project family! ?? This Giving Tuesday, you have the opportunity to be part of this powerful legacy. Double Your Impact: All donations made will be matched up to $500,000 Here's what your Giving Tuesday gift can do: ?? $50 = Equips 25 students with prevention education ?? $100 = Trains a teacher to identify trafficking warning signs ?? $250 = Brings Just Ask to an entire classroom ?? $1,000 = Implements prevention programming in a new school Together, we can ensure no child ever has to say "no one ever asked." I used to get so frustrated when I heard this... but then I thought deeper and prepared my educated response! In my Children's Museum years, I sometimes would help out at the front desk or take time to talk to donors. Part of the standard questioning involved 'rounding up' or providing additional support in the form of donations. Sometimes we would get the response of 'Why should I support more? The Museum never changes." If you've ever heard a statement like this... let me arm you with the best response yet! I would respond with... There is something that changes each and every time you walk through our front doors... and it's standing right next to you! Yes, Your child. ----- give it a moment to sink in ----- As your young one is growing and change so quickly, they continue to learn new things and new levels daily. Having a few exhibits that remain the same benefit by: * providing opportunities for repetition (How many times have you watched the same movie with them?) * there is comfort in predictability (When your child can walk in knowing they can play with the same grocery store mini cart, they will play differently with it.) * your child is practicing life skills at their own safe level as they see them happening. (When they see you cooking dinner, then are presented with a imaginative play restaurant space ... they practice life.) and of course... * with additional funding we are able to add in traveling and transitional exhibits that compliment our spaces. Try out these responses next time and see how they react. PS... Yesterday's Museum Minds Collaborative meet up was all about fundraising... if you want a link to the recording to get even more info about how your audience can support you, just comment or send me a message. I'm happy to share! #childcentered #playbasedlearning #childrensmuseum #answeringquestions #inspiredimpact

Did you know that despite NDIS funding, there remains a gap in covering the full costs of providing specialist care for children who are deaf? To bridge this gap and ensure every child can learn to listen and speak, we rely on generous donations. ?? With more children being diagnosed with hearing loss every year, the need for support is greater than ever. Our 24-hour Giving Day on Wednesday, 28 August 2024, is a critical opportunity to make a difference. Thanks to the generosity of our partners, all donations made on Giving Day will be doubled, up to $105,000. This means your contribution will go twice as far in helping children like 1-year-old Louie, who is improving his listening and speech skills with tools like the Learn to Listen sounds. In the lead-up to Giving Day, we'll be sharing insights from our clinicians on some of these sounds. We encourage parents and guardians to try them out—it's a fun and effective way to support your child's spoken language development. Let’s kick off this campaign with the ‘Roar’ sound, just like a lion! ?? Stay tuned for more updates on the Learn to Listen sounds as we count down to Giving Day. For those eager to roar into action early, you can donate here: https://lnkd.in/gZHQwuNe All donations in the lead up to Giving Day will also be matched. #GivingDay2024 #TSCGivingDay #TheShepherdCentre #HearingLoss #AmplifyPossibility

Teachers play such an important role in shaping the minds of our future generations. Take a moment this week to show appreciation for all the hard work and dedication they put into their job every day! One way to show support is by donating to organizations that support teachers, such as the Million Dollar Teacher Project. Additionally, you can donate directly to classrooms to help provide necessary supplies for students. Just ask your nearest school, teacher friends, or send me a message! Another way to show support is by recognizing and thanking teachers on social media. Post about a teacher's dedication and tag them and their school to show your appreciation publicly. If you are a teacher, don't forget to take advantage of some special deals and discounts that are available during Teacher Appreciation Week. Check out this list of places where you can score some great deals: https://shorturl.at/oyzCM Let's all come together to show our gratitude and support for teachers who work tirelessly to educate and inspire our youth. Thank you, teachers, for all that you do! ???? #TeacherAppreciation #SupportTeachers Timothy Honan + Marcela Campbell + Haven Guyer + Lloyd Hopkins

East Bay Children's Book Project (EBCBP) - Holiday Donation Do you have children's and teen books to pass on???The mission of?East Bay Children's Book Project (EBCBP)?is to help build literacy by putting books into the hands of children who have little or no access to them. What:??new and gently used children’s books, including?board books through high school books.?Books should be clean with no marks or stains. No textbooks, religious books, encyclopedias, magazines, adult books, or library discards. Monetary donations can be accepted by mail at 2501 Harrison St., Oakland, CA 94612 or online at?https://lnkd.in/gyn-rHCW When/Where:?? ?- Turkey Trot bib pick up on Wed Nov 27 3-6pm at Veterans' Hall,? ?- Piedmont Middle School library in the EBCBP box during school hours?8:40-2:40 ?- EBCBP, 2501 Harrison St., Oakland (across from Whole Foods)?Tuesdays 3:30-5:30pm and 1st Sat of month (Dec 7).??Look for the purple door facing Harrison St at the "Keep Clear" area of road. Some are used by schools, daycare and community centers, homeless shelters, and hospitals to create libraries at their sites.?
