As a startup investor and mentor to some great entrepreneurs, I am always fascinated by the different areas touched by entrepreneurship. No matter what you create, a sophisticated piece of technology or a piece of art the process remains the same. Let's learn more about one of the three founders of SoFFt Productions LTD! ??Introducing Natasha Duffy: My name is Natasha Duffy and I am creative director at SoFFt Productions. We are a creative production house that offers services to other businesses like event management and design, video and film production and festival curation. We also produce our own work and in the past year we have created a club night with Rua Red, A theatre production with the Abbey theatre and a short documentary with the Gay Health Network. Coming up we have a really exciting family friendly festival with ESB! We are multi-disciplinary and all our departments feed really nicely into each other. ?? The Challenges As A Female Founder: I have always worked in more male dominated spaces, from festivals and events to film and video. I have been mostly lucky and have worked with brilliant people but there are times I have come across people who maybe didn't take what I was saying seriously or underestimated me. I have learned to hold my space and not allow myself to be meek. At the same time it is important to me to stay sensitive and I find that part of me a real asset. It allows me to be more creative, read situations and people well and to think deeply about things. I am really lucky that I'm surrounded by a team now that supports what I do and I don't take that for granted. ??Notable Impacts: I am really proud of producing An Old Song, Half Forgotten with actor Bryan Murray. This was a show about alzheimers played by an actor with alzheimers and our job was to figure out best practices and to create an environment that supported Bryan to work. I think what the whole team did was ground breaking and I think there is so much value to what we learned in the process. It's tough being an inventor in this day and age. The scam and con artists are often the ones getting the funding, and we live in a time when people would rather choose the decadent degradation of society than novel/familiar ways to enhance it. I hope all the hours and days and months we have put into DemocraSEE sees the light of day. Hi, London / Greater London folk, who don't have a fixed work abode or indeed a sense of tribe or belonging, please keep reading!... The single most enriching thing I have done this year so far is to become a member of Fabrik. Situated right by Old Street tube station it's more than a co-working space, it's a place to make new connections, have fun, find opportunities to collaborate and co-create community. This post-pandemic, splintered world of work has made it harder for many of us to come together in person, connect meaningfully with one another, and find the inspiration, focus, support and stretch that we need to thrive professionally. Personally, since the pandemic, I have really struggled to thrive in my work due to this lack of in-person connection and camaraderie.
