It’s spooky season! This year we’ve decided to do something truly terrifying. Concerted Action is collecting tech support horror stories and will share the best the week of Halloween. I’m trying to decide which of my (many) stories I should share…. Should I share the story about when a senior product manager admitted to me a major core feature of their toolset was ‘too buggy to use’ in an upcoming migration, despite days before touting the same functionality as a major selling point to a mutual client? Or maybe it’s the chat with a representative from a business CRM that when asked if he was a bot replied he was not, but that he was required to use pre-scripted responses… helpful. Or maybe I should go 15+ years back and share the truly horrifying tales heard directly from the developers of a tool about how their boss would overwrite all their code submissions when he submitted his own updates… Or maybe we all need to relive the tale from 20 years ago when a tech tool support admin had their password stolen… and their password was the same for 100s of different organizations on the toolset.
