I noted many common mistakes employers do when posting Sales job vacancies on LinkedIn: 1- Not mentioning job location !!! Many job adverts don't specify the country or even in which continent the job is located. As a result applicants from all over the world are applying !! but the job is located in a specific country and sometimes in a specific city. Location must be clearly mentioned whether it is in Saudi Arabia or India or Egypt or China or any place. This is very important because sales job is related to specific geographical location. 2- Not mentioning the products. Selling vegetables is different from selling Electrical products and different from selling cosmetics or IT services, product/service to be sold must be clearly mentioned, this will let only the qualified related persons apply. 3- No explanation if this indoor or outdoor job. This must be clearly mentioned in details , 30% indoor - 70% outdoor for example.

I recently came across a Sales associate job post here that said, "If you can sell sand in the Sahara, we want you." It made me pause. Not because it’s a clever line (it isn’t ??), but because it’s a classic sales myth that just won’t die. Here’s the thing: selling sand in the Sahara isn’t impressive - it’s wasteful. Why? Because good sales isn’t about forcing something people don’t need. Great sales starts with understanding what your customer truly values. In my line of work, I don’t just pitch our lending automation solution (Recova) to every financial institution under the sun. Instead, I work with banks, fintechs, and microlenders who need smarter, faster, and more reliable tools for credit appraisal. I focus on their pain points - high default rates, clunky processes, and missed opportunities - and show how we can solve them. Proper sales relies on this foundation: ?? Market Research: Do you know your customers? Better yet, do you know what keeps them up at night? ?? Product Development: Is your offering genuinely solving a problem? (Hint: selling sand in the SAHARA isn’t.) ??? Good Prospecting: Are you targeting the right audience, or just shouting into the void? ?? Value Proposition: Are you highlighting benefits your customer actually cares about? ?? The Right Fit: Selling isn’t a contest; it’s matchmaking.
