Another day, another natural disaster. According to our friends at Good360, "Hurricane Helene made landfall near Perry, FL at 11:10 pm last night at a Category 4 hurricane (130-156 mph winds). Helene ravished the Florida coastline with 140 mph winds and storm surge. Tropical Storm Helene?and is now tracking inland across the Southeast through Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, South Carolina and North Carolina. Over 20 lives have been lost. Over 800 survivors are in evacuation centers." We are glad that the disaster recovery team from Good360 is on the case, as are dozens of local volunteer organizations and large national responders like the Red Cross. Since we bought NeedsList, we have been learning a lot about the urgent needs arising during and in the immediate wake of a disaster, but also about the longterm recovery that survivors face. We believe that technology like NeedsList can help with all of that, and also increase community resilience by making it easier to anticipate needs and pre-position supplies. Our thoughts are with the survivors and first responders during this chaotic time. ??

These wildfires are sobering. Natural disasters are close to our hearts. My partners and I are working towards a large acquisition for a company that provides relief after natural disasters. We have 70% of the capital raised. If you have a connection to PE or a family office, let us know...Leave no stone unturned. The stats around these events are hard to look at... "In 2019, the U.S. recorded 24,047 wildfires, but by 2024, this number surged to 35,531 incidents, underscoring the growing severity and scale of wildfire disasters. Similarly, hurricanes have grown more frequent and destructive, with 2019 seeing only two major hurricanes make landfall in the U.S., compared to 2023 and 2024, where back-to-back record-breaking hurricane seasons caused billions of dollars in damage, displacing thousands and straining emergency response capabilities."

It’s ‘danger season’ for natural disasters—and FEMA funding could run out by fall As hurricanes and heat waves become more extreme, FEMA funding may not last through the summer. Six months into 2024, tornadoes, winter storms, and other severe weather events have already cost the country?more than?$25 billion in aid and recovery costs. Now, with the Atlantic hurricane season beginning, experts are worried about what the rise in natural disasters could mean for the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s pool of disaster relief funding. scientists expect this?hurricane season?to be intense! It could include up to 25 named storms, and between four and seven major hurricanes. #FEMA #disasters #US #hurricanes
