No amount of marketing, PR, and lobbying is going to save our field so long as we keep hiding behind multi-decade-old methodologies on the one hand, and ignoring the fast evolving demands from the industry on the other, demands that can actually offer financially viable careers for future students. Psychology has been suffering an imposter syndrome as a scientific field for as long as I can remember, constantly defending ourselves that Psychology is real science. As a surviver of imposter syndrome, my experience suggests that the best cure for imposter syndrome, is to actually become that thing you claim to be. #psychology #career #science
The "Great Cliff" is arriving, and it poses real threats to the field. Fortunately, there is still time for all psychologists to act. From communicating to administrators, students, and the public about how psychology contributes to society to advocating for broader policy changes at the state and federal level, there are many ways to get involved. Robert S. Wright, a professional with over three decades of experience spanning fields such as education, child welfare, forensic mental health, sexual violence, and cultural competence, has developed a method that is shedding light on the systemic biases that have long undermined fairness and justice within the legal system. Since 2014, the Impact of Race and Culture Assessment (IRCA) has been assisting Canadian courts in arriving at more just sentences for people of African descent. IRCAs are assessments that consider an individual’s experience with racism, discrimination, and cultural factors in the context of their offending behavior. By systematically gathering information on the historical and contemporary impact of race and culture, IRCAs provide a richer, multi-dimensional understanding of individuals that can inform more effective rehabilitation and reintegration strategies. This training challenges participants to go beyond “cultural” considerations to address the effect of racism in our assessment practices. "I advocate for a reformed approach to justice-involved youth. Here are the key strategies from my perspective: Community-Based Programs: Let’s shift from detention to community-based programs. These focus on education, mental health services, and skill development, aiding societal reintegration. Culturally Relevant Rehabilitation: Our programs should be culturally sensitive, addressing the unique needs and experiences of each individual. Family Involvement: Actively involving the family in the rehabilitation process provides emotional support and stability. Education and Vocational Training: Quality education and vocational training equip young men and women with skills for a successful future and reduce reoffending. Mental Health Services: Integrated mental health services address issues and support overall well-being. Restorative Justice Programs: Programs focusing on restorative justice promote empathy and responsibility. Workforce Development and Employability: Incorporating workforce development initiatives and creating pathways to college and employment opportunities can reduce recidivism and promote long-term success. The goal should be to support our youth in becoming responsible and productive members of society." #JusticeReform #YouthEmpowerment #RehabilitationOverDetention #WorkforceDevelopment #PathwaysToSuccess

What does the recent "Defund the Police" movement have to do with Communist Goals that were written down in the early 1960's? Well, quite a bit. Goal #38 is "Transfer some of the powers of arrest from the police to social agencies. Treat all behavioral problems as psychiatric disorders which no one but psychiatrists can understand [or treat]." Remember in Minneapolis after George Floyd that they wanted to replace police with people from social services to prevent police brutality? This is part of a series that takes a close look at the 45 Communist Goals that were entered into the Congressional Record on January 10, 1963. The more I learn about Marxism the more I am struck by how Woke ideology dovetails with it. #homeschooling #homeschool #homeeducation #homebasedlearning #parenting #parents #parentingadvice #parentinginsights #parent #parenthood #parentslove #children #childdevelopment #childadvocacy #students #student #studentdevelopment #studentmentalhealth #jaredjulia
