Today, at the invitation of Prof. Jonathan Sapsed, I took part in a technical visit to the "Port of Tyne", where we learned about the innovation and sustainability programme, which was very well presented by @Dr.Jo North...We had a presentation by a start-up (Icor_TRL 9) and a spin-off from Newcastle University Business School (Recovery) both of which have innovations already on the market and in use by the Port of tyne and other international partners. On that occasion I asked about the TTO, and the feedback was that its support work was fundamental for innovation management, TT and product evolution. The Port's innovation programme is robust with many actions and prepares people to overcome the challenges of global Ports, always with sustainability in mind and since in the first step of journey. The frameworks presented were well constructed and it was a day of learning and knowledge sharing. Thank you so much Prof. Jonathan Sapesed and to the Port of Tyne for hosting us so well. This is so important for Brazilian's Port like a Santos's Port and Vitoria's Port to connect with anothers frameworks and improve in Innovations for new development.

Now that I have enjoyed Bordeaux wine and Erasmus-life for a couple of months, I could not be happier about my choice. ERRIN’s Astrid Hannes participated in the European Circular Innovation Valley Kick-off, where 9 #EURegions, including seven #ERRINmembers, are embarking on an exciting Circular Regional Innovation Valley (#RIV) journey for the next 5 years! ?? The RIVs will foster interregional collaboration within the EU, transforming value chains with a mission-oriented approach. This interregional ecosystem will lead the way in delivering innovative circular solutions to market, addressing the challenges of circular transformation across up to ten industrial value chains. ?? A competitive call for interregional circular innovation projects will soon be launched, opening up new opportunities for agents and interest groups within innovation ecosystems to connect and co-create solutions. ? As Circular Cities and Regions Initiative (CCRI) Community Manager, Astrid highlighted how stakeholders can leverage the CCRI collaborative support, tap into project development assistance and engage in stakeholder dialogues, unlocking the full potential of CCRI’s resources and tools.

This annual gathering brought together industry pioneers, thought leaders, and engaged participants who are all committed to advancing sustainable practices in the process industry. After a day filled with insightful keynotes and discussions, we’re energised and inspired by the collective knowledge shared on how we can work together to build a more sustainable world. Some key takeaways that resonated with us: ??Collaboration is essential Partnerships across the entire value chain are needed to tackle the complex sustainability challenges we face. No single organisation can achieve this alone - only by working together can we make meaningful progress. ??Merging knowledge with engineering The conversations highlighted the importance of integrating product and process expertise with engineering capabilities to drive innovation and efficiency in food production, whether for plant-based or animal products. ?? Industry-driven change Sustainability progress is driven by industry initiatives and consumer demand - not solely by regulation. This shift underscores the need for forward-thinking practices to meet evolving expectations responsibly. ??Biodiversity and value chain impact Looking forward, we recognise biodiversity and the environmental impact of our value chains as critical areas to address. The Cámara de Comercio de Santiago de Compostela organised an innovative event that left a mark on the Ribeira community. This local creative jam not only met expectations, but exceeded them, offering a unique platform for the exchange of ideas and the promotion of creativity. The event featured a series of activities designed to stimulate imagination and encourage collaboration One of the highlights of the jam was the presentation of young people's ideas and projects that aimed to foster innovation in traditional sectors, create synergies between different local industries focusing on the Blue Economy or promote the adoption of emerging technologies The jam also highlighted the importance of the Blue Economy for Ribeira and its surroundings. ?? Sustainability in Hamburg: From Reporting to Strategy! ?? Last week, I had the honor of participating in the event “Vom Bericht zur Strategie - Wo steht Hamburg in Sachen Nachhaltigkeit?” organized by the Stiftung Zukunftsrat Hamburg E.V. and Nachhaltigkeitsforum Hamburg and moderated by Anke Dr. Butscher from corsus - corporate sustainability GmbH. The event featured an interactive exchange with the audience, where we dived into key questions around the overarching topic. Priscilla Owosekun-Wilms, Head of Sustainability for Hamburg, provided insights into the current status and future plans of the city. Following this, we engaged in a panel discussion with esteemed guests, including our Finance Senator Andreas Dressel, as well as Helena Peltonen-Gassmann and Kai Hünem?rder on critical topics such as: 1) The current state of Hamburg’s sustainability goals. 2) Key components of an ambitious sustainability strategy. 3) The costs of sustainability versus non-sustainability and how to balance conflicting goals. 4) Strategies for transforming Hamburg’s administration toward sustainability. 5) How to effectively involve academia and civil society in these processes. 6) Creating binding commitments for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda. 7) Mechanims to move toward a more impact-oriented steering. I’m looking forward to the next steps, especially involving Universit?t Hamburg researchers in the strategy development process!
