At House of Refuge, we understand that the journey to safety and stability for survivors of domestic violence is filled with many challenges. That’s why our approach goes beyond immediate shelter, addressing the deeper causes of homelessness through employment, education, and financial literacy. We offer job training, resume support, and connections to local employers, helping individuals build careers and work towards independence. Through our educational and financial literacy programs, we equip clients with the skills to budget, improve credit, and secure safe, stable housing. The State of Reentry press conference yesterday at the LOB reported the findings of the Connecticut 2024 State of Reentry Report (Find at https://lnkd.in/eDnhTni5). The report uses data provided by the Department of Correction to document the barriers faced by returning citizens trying to successfully transition back into the Connecticut communities: Homelessness, housing instability, mental health, and substance use, along with a lack of education and employment history are key barriers. The conversation quickly turned by members of the audience to the upcoming issue of the lack of state funding for Connecticut's existing five Reentry Welcome Centers. These Reentry Welcome Centers (in Bridgeport, Hartford, New Haven, New London and Waterbury) provide support services and referrals for individuals released from prison that address the above mentioned barriers of homelessness, housing instability, mental health, substance use, education and employment. Without State funding, as of this June (five months from now), these Reentry Welcome Centers will most likely close. Please see the CT. Mirror article https://lnkd.in/eNiZ6UGK.
