The Arkansas Waterways Commission (AWC) is dedicated to developing, promoting, and protecting waterborne transportation in Arkansas. As the sole state agency responsible for this important task, the AWC also encourages economic development for ports along the Arkansas, Mississippi, Ouachita, Red, and White Rivers. The Arkansas Port, Intermodal, and Waterway Development Grant Program, authorized by Ark. Code § 15-23-205, provides financial assistance to Arkansas port and intermodal authorities for the purpose of funding port development projects. Eligible applicants for the grant program include port authorities and intermodal authorities located within the state of Arkansas along the five commercially navigable rivers. Port facilities can include intermodal facilities and industrial park infrastructure development. Funding for the Arkansas Port, Intermodal, and Waterway Development Grant Program is made possible through ad valorem taxes and penalties collected from water transportation companies. The program also utilizes funds not awarded or not expended from previous years. For the Calendar Year 2024 grant program, the Arkansas Port, Intermodal, and Waterway Development Grant Fund has $3,476,042.88 available! We encourage you to consider taking advantage of this opportunity to enhance Arkansas' waterborne transportation and economic growth. If you are not an eligible entity, please feel free to share this information with eligible entities in or near your community. Stay tuned in the coming weeks for additional details on this year’s new and improved application process. Applications for the 2024 program will be accepted May 1 through June 15. #ArkansasWaterways #PortDevelopmentGrant #FundingOpportunity #InfrastructureBoost #GrowYourPort

This The New York Times investigative piece is worth your time and a read. I found I still had quite a few questions by the end (appears there is a lot of mismanagement at every level), but for water utility managers and administrators, it is an important read. #water #wastewater #cleanwater #watermeters #nytimes #investigativejournalism #metering #mississippi

Rebuilding stronger, faster, wider, higher, newer, over, under, along it, away from it, safer, better, protected, prepared… what does resilience mean to you? https://lnkd.in/gKnUphaY
Kōrero mai – Let’s talk It’s been great to be out in Hawke’s Bay this week talking to and listening to communities. A series of drop-in sessions are being held at various locations to provide updates about TREC’s ongoing recovery work and critical resilience projects across the region’s state highway network. We're also gathering thoughts and feedback on several potential rebuild projects such as SH2/SH5 Eskdale and SH2 Devil’s Elbow. We have technical experts on hand to answer any questions. These sessions are also an opportunity for communities to meet some of the team and talk to us about recruitment. We’ll be out and about in Tairāwhiti in early April for further community drop-in sessions. To learn more about the sessions or provide feedback visit: https://lnkd.in/djHHKa6P

Awesome news for Queensland as the federal budget earmarked additional funding for 31 dangerous crash sites across Queensland as part of the 2024-25 Black Spot Program. https://lnkd.in/gK7Vs9QC Funding has increased nationally for the program by $40 million and is intended to provide financial support to local and state governments to improve lighting and line marking as well as installation of new measures to protect road users such as traffic lights, separation measures or roundabouts. What we like about this initiative is the proactive approach it will take to community consultation. Black Spot Consultative Panels will work with communities to review nominated upgrades, allocate funding and determine project priority, allowing local road users to have their say. This is a great initiative and one that fits well within Australia’s moves to reduce our road deaths to zero. Learn more about other key initiatives to support the safety of all road users by checking out our Road Safety Roundabout Series. https://lnkd.in/g3jvGUfK

28 years of Framework Agreement land management is about the communities. We are proud of each and every First Nation who have chosen to pass a land code, who start by restoring jurisdiction over their lands, and begin a journey to implement their own governance infrastructure, their way. We recognize the three communities and the leadership who established the first land codes in Canada: Georgina Island (ON), Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation (ON), and Muskoday First Nation. These three set the stage by committing to invest early in their governance, to create necessary tools, to raise knowledge and capacity and to focus on their land based priorities. First Nation's who choose to pass a land code today have an ever expanding family of communities to draw knowledge from to implement land based governance, and even to help rebuild their community. On December 8th, 2023 Lytton First Nation passed their community land code. Lytton First Nation have had some severe challenges stemming from devastating wildfires in 2021 and in 2023. Lytton First Nation are moving forward and rebuilding their community, and a land code will help with that rebuilding effort. Lytton First Nation is the 116th community in Canada to pass a land code to date, and were one of 12 communities in 2023 to do so. Each community has a reason for taking on their own land governance, and we are here to share those stories. To learn more please visit our website at www.labrc.com
