From Gudjugudju's welcome to country onwards the Reef Resilience Symposium delivered inspiration and realistic hope, reminding us that we are one "family" that needs to point in the same direction, and helping us all cope a little better with the very real challenges facing the world's coral reefs and all who depend on them. A huge thank you to all those who made the Reef Resilience Symposium happen, the sponsors who made the event free to participate in person or online, the tireless organisers who made everything work and to all of the participants who collectively reminded us of the creativity, hard work and dedication that is being deployed to secure a better future for the Great Barrier Reef, and the other 90% of coral reefs around the world. Coming together, particularly when reefs are under acute stress, is important for us all to build our resolve and focus on actions that will tilt the balance in favour of the reef ecosystems we know and love.. While there's no magic wand solution, protecting Reef resilience by enhancing existing and developing new tools is critical while we all work to mitigate and adapt to climate change. My take away was that we all need to "Think future and Act now". https://lnkd.in/gmumpABE

The challenges of today go beyond deadlines decided by governments, territorial claims of oceans and lands, or borders drawn on a map. Addressing global issues is a shared responsibility that requires collaborative efforts and swift decision-making. By dismantling the barriers between science, business, and policy, we can deepen communication and enhance our understanding of the pan-Arctic ecosystem, making each of us feel empowered and integral to the solution. Modern challenges, such as the impacts of climate change, fostering sustainable development, and navigating political tensions, are deeply interconnected. While the green transition's financial, societal, and environmental costs will not be fairly distributed worldwide, the Arctic holds a significant role in our global solutions. We hope to see you next year at the Arctic Frontiers 2025 Conference in Troms?, Norway on the 27th - 30th of January.

This Friday the 7th June 2024 is UN #WorldOceansDay ?????? #PlanetEarth could perhaps be better named #PlanetOcean as so much of the surface is water. Yet life in and on the #oceans has never been more under threat. UN World Oceans Day is asking us to awaken new depths of understanding, compassion, collaboration and commitment to help find the right solutions for these problems. As people that depend on, love playing in, and working on the ocean, we believe that radical collaboration offers a way to help us accelerate maritime decarbonisation as one part of the solution. We embrace the call to awaken new depths of collaboration as it speaks so well of our own approach to creating change for purpose. #MaritimeSustainability

Harnessing people power to help the Reef. AIMS scientists, support staff and Indigenous Rangers worked side by side on Heron Island for training and knowledge sharing during the recent mass coral spawning with benefits for all. As part of the Indigenous Futures project, Indigenous rangers from six Traditional Owner groups learnt advanced reef restoration techniques developed through the Reef Restoration and Adaptation Program. AIMS and its partners are developing a suite of approaches to help the Reef survive climate change. At the same time, they are building the foundations for their practical delivery across large areas of the reefs, which is where Indigenous Rangers come in. Read more: https://bit.ly/3BjPY8D This project is supported by AIMS, the Australian Government’s Reef Trust through the Reef Trust Partnership with the Great Barrier Reef Foundation, and Reef Restoration and Adaptation Program.

?? Oceano Azul Foundation has become a member of the Deep Sea Conservation Coalition (DSCC). We are eager to contribute to conserving and protecting deep-sea ecosystems around the world. Oceano Azul Foundation is committed to marine conservation and recognises the importance of collaborative initiatives such as the DSCC in advocating for the preservation of vulnerable deep-sea habitats and species. The world is just beginning to discover how these extraordinary ecosystems can offer humankind new scientific avenues and answers about the nature of life itself ?? But these fragile places and their remarkable biodiversity are threatened by climate change, deep-sea fishing, deep-sea mining, and other human activity ???? ?? The Deep Sea Conservation Coalition (DSCC) wants robust action to be taken to protect the ocean depths, their remarkable species and the secrets they hold! #DefendTheDeep

??During National Ocean Month, we celebrate the beauty and bounty of our ocean. ??From the air we breathe to the food we eat; our ocean touches every aspect of our lives. We depend on the ocean for sustenance, transportation, tradition, and survival. ??As we celebrate all that the ocean provides, let us remember that our ocean powers our economy, feeds billions of people, supplies 50% of the world’s oxygen, offers recreational opportunities for us to enjoy, and regulates our weather patterns and global climate system. ??Together, we can protect and conserve our marine environments for a sustainable future. ??https://ow.ly/Sa3950S5xX0
