Optimizing Energy Efficiency and Air Quality in Enclosed Parking Garages The need for mechanical ventilation systems in enclosed parking garages to manage vehicle emissions has been linked to increased energy consumption and peak electricity demand. In a recent study, a simulation framework was developed, combining multi-zone airflow, contaminant transport modeling, fan affinity laws, and real-world traffic patterns, to better predict the effects of various ventilation control strategies on indoor air quality and fan energy use. Validated using data from a real-world case study, the framework was applied to assess fan energy use, peak power demand, and carbon monoxide (CO) concentrations under four different ventilation control strategies. These included a basic "Always-On" schedule and three demand-based approaches: Linear-Demand Control Ventilation (DCV), Standardized Variable Flow (SVF), and a simple On-Off strategy. It was found that the Linear-DCV strategy consistently delivered the greatest energy savings, with reductions of up to 97.9% compared to the Always-On approach. This framework is intended to model the energy and air quality impacts across various parking garage configurations and control scenarios, offering insights into more sustainable and efficient ventilation solutions. #EnergyEfficiency #SmartVentilation #ParkingGarage #Sustainability #AirQuality

Today, LightingEurope published a position paper on the classification of batteries used in self-contained emergency lighting luminaires. We conclude that batteries utilised in self-contained emergency lighting luminaires should be considered #industrial batteries if they: ? are specific to a self-contained emergency luminaire (e.g. they are selected to meet the safety, the minimum life and the performance required by the luminaire standard) ? are designed and customized for operation in a self-contained emergency lighting luminaire by using a specific connector or other connecting device that normally prevents the use in different products or different applications ? are designed and intended to be used in circuit permanently connected to the normal supply to keep them fully charged for the event where the normal supply fails.
