The building sector, a cornerstone of our society, is also one of the main contributors to the climate and ecological crisis, consuming natural resources unsustainably. As #COP29 approaches, a joint study from ADEME, the Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction (GlobalABC), the Institut Fran?ais pour la Performance du Batiment (Ifpeb) Action for Market Transformation - A4MT presents a stark finding: the only viable solution lies in sufficiency. ?? Key Message: It is essential to assess the necessity of each construction and adopt policies focused on demand and the available carbon budget. This means reducing or optimizing building sizes and forms to limit land, material, and energy use. The report calls for integrating a “sufficiency-first principle” into all building sector policies. ?? The COP29 Summit has officially begun in Baku today to discuss tangible solutions to the global climate crisis and ensure that we do not let the target of 'below 1.5 degrees' slip out of reach.?? ? Scotland's target for net-zero emissions by 2045 will have a big impact on the construction industry that currently contributes to 39% of global carbon emissions.?? ? At RKA we are pleased to see the increased standard for buildings especially a reduction in operation carbon costs and emphasis on clean energy uses. We see these standards as a base line and are always striving to surpass them where possible.?? ?
