As the recent report by Forest Alliance NSW emphasises, citizen science surveys can only be temporary solutions to the failure of the NSW Government to effectively protect greater gliders from extinction. But only less than 1% of den trees for gliders are being identified by Forestry Corporation. That’s why we’re for calling an immediate end to logging in forests – like Bulga, Tallaganda, Styx River and Tuggolo – that are strongholds for greater gliders. Sign the petition telling the NSW Government to end the state-sponsored destruction of glider habitat: https://lnkd.in/gAHQNH_X

This morning, the House Agriculture Committee advanced the Farm, Food and National Security Act of 2024 (HR 8467). American Forests looks forward to continued discussions between the chambers and ultimately a bipartisan bill. The Farm Bill, renewed every five years, provides a crucial opportunity to support public, private and Tribal forests. American Forests is hopeful that Congress can come together to address key areas such as reforestation needs, urban and community forestry programs, forest landowner empowerment and all-lands wildfire resilience through this year’s #FarmBill. https://lnkd.in/eXWDhMKV

Lower Bear River Watershed Project Manager for Trout Unlimited Masters of Ecological Restoration B.S. Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences Utah State University Ambassador: Redington, Rio, Grundens, Trxstle, Ahrex Hooks
As part of our research project with Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands in collaboration with USU’s Janet Quinney Lawson Institute for Land, Water, and Air I presented this poster at the 2024 Utah State University Spring Run Off Conference. Our project is ongoing so this is more of an update on where we are at before diving into more field work in the very near future. I could have easily done one poster for each objective in the project but I did my best to squeeze as much as I could into this space. More information about the conference here: https://lnkd.in/gAtVwzby Poster description: Establishing a baseline to assess the impact of restoration actions reconnecting a Bear Lake tributary. Establishing baseline conditions and post-restoration standardized monitoring is critical to assessing the impact of restoration. In preparation for a planned culvert removal to reconnect upstream migration for cutthroat trout in North Eden Creek, a tributary of Bear Lake, we are characterizing the current fish community and habitat conditions, and designing a monitoring plan capable of determining long-term success of restoration.
