Why is it so uncommon to have the conversations like those in Sweet Magnolias? Ok, there’s some context behind this question: In a busy Family Practice there is thick tension. You know what I mean? What is it? What’s causing it? Is it affecting patients? How is it affecting the out-of-work lives? I started asking, “On a scale from 0-10 (0= You’re done! You’re not coming back tomorrow; to 10, You love your job and look forward to coming back tomorrow), how was your day?” And then I just listened. Oh man did I learn some things!! One provider gave a 6 and another who overheard said, “Six?! How did you get that high?” We have some work to do. So where do you start? I don’t expect ‘Sweet Magnolias” conversations, but it would be nice to get a little closer. At RVU, our first Interprofessional Education (IPE) session is September 12th and those 1st year students have been on my mind. How can I contribute to a better future for them?

Anti Ragging Cell is happy to conduct this event. The take away points for students were "Ignore" when you are criticized, along with few valuable points. Identify Negative Thoughts by encourage students to recognize when they are having negative thoughts in response to peer comments. Challenge These Thoughts by teaching students to question the validity of these negative thoughts. Are they based on facts or assumptions? Replace with Positive Thoughts by helping students reframe these thoughts in a positive or more balanced way. #antiragging #mindset #mentalhealth
