Everyone remembered the Nilla Wafers and taco nights. Had the honor of attending a celebration of life for a 99- and 103-year-old couple who passed within a year of one another.? As I didn’t know the couple well, I wasn’t sure what to expect from the service or to be as deeply moved as I was by the stories that were shared. I was struck by how much of my time I spend thinking about things that won’t make much of a difference in the impact I make during my short time here. As I think about the legacy I leave, I will look to Marg and Lloyd for the example they set. My takeaways: ? What their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren remembered most was their love, the way they lived their lives, and how they treated others.?? ? Memories were mostly about quality time spent with family (often over tacos and Nilla wafers). Traditions matter. ? What they said mattered much less than what they did. How does this relate to my approach to work and life? ? The relationships I build along the way are worth far more than the title or the paycheck.? ? The traditions we create don’t have to be Instaworthy, they just have to be real. ? The moments matter. Between coworkers, friends and families.? Take the time, make the connections. Everyone wins.

I know 70.3 is a light snack for some of you ultra-crazies out there. This is my kit for the ride this weekend. I’m a week early for Memorial Day. But the day itself isn’t something I celebrate. Some treat it like the official summer kickoff…or 4th of July Jr. I do it differently. I remember every day. It’s not just the heroes I rode with. I remember the sounds of their families crying uncontrollably during memorial services. And while taps played. ???????????? I don’t know if the life I’m living is worthy of the sacrifices they made. But I can tell you after working from one professional crisis to the next…for multiple corporate masters… Nothing compares to what they gave. <<< Not even close >>> Similarly, nothing compares to the sense of grief or burden. It’s not that I lack empathy. Quite the opposite. I recognize the brewing inner storms of others, and the pitfalls of tactical reactions versus empirically informed strategy. Stacking the challenges means that within the crisis of today and tomorrow, I draw upon the lessons from the wins and losses. …especially the losses, and who was there. All to say, if we’re coworkers, whatever challenge we face isn’t the first crisis, nor will it be the last. No matter how unprecedented. And even through the difficult emotions, it’s important to stay grounded in truth. ?the Facts that underpin that truth. ?the history of the individuals and teams that lived it < If you wish to tell stories, remember the focus on the truth > Celebrate the positive. Learn from the negative. And as always, ?? Be Kind ()*/+-()*/+-()*/+-()*/+-()*/+-()*/+-()*/+-()*/+- Hi, I’m Mike. I’m a practitioner of kindness through open, honest communication. I write daily about leadership, soft skills, sustainability, mental fitness, and my story. I am an energy professional, engineer, Veteran, dad, husband, and aspiring dog whisperer. I remember and honor them.

Today on Labor Day, let’s celebrate more than just hard work — let’s take a moment to honor the deeper meaning behind it. The truth is — labor is service, and service is life. When we give our labor, we’re offering a piece of ourselves, an expression of love in action. Whether you’re guiding others, solving problems, creating something new, caring for others, or building a better future, know that your work is a powerful force that shapes the world around you. True fulfillment comes not just from the tasks we complete, but from the impact we create through our dedication to others. The most alive, driven, and fulfilled people are those who lead lives of contribution and service to something greater than themselves. Your labor isn’t just a job; it’s a gift, a legacy that leaves a lasting ripple of positive change. Let’s take a moment to reflect: How can you bring more purpose and joy into your work? How does your labor positively impact others, your community, your family, and the world around you? Enjoy the holiday weekend, and thank you for your countless wonderful contributions to making our world a brighter place! ??????

Another Labor Day has passed and it is important to understand the deeper purpose behind it. Labor isn’t merely about what we do—it's about the service we provide and the positive impact we create in the world. ?? When we approach our work as an act of service, we offer more than just our time and skills. We contribute to something greater than ourselves. Whether you’re solving complex problems, caring for others, or building something new, your work has the power to shape lives and communities. Take the following examples for instance: - Teachers don’t just impart knowledge; they shape the future by inspiring and guiding the next generation. Each lesson they deliver is a step toward a brighter tomorrow. ?? - Healthcare Workers do more than provide medical care—they offer hope and comfort in times of need, making a profound difference in the lives of patients and their families. ?? - Entrepreneurs aren’t just building businesses; they’re creating opportunities, driving innovation, and contributing to economic growth that benefits society as a whole. ?? Now let’s take the a level and reflect on a Parable, shall we? In a town long ago, three stonecutters were asked what they were doing. The first said, “I’m cutting stones.” The second replied, “I’m building a wall.” But the third looked up with pride and said, “I’m constructing a cathedral that will stand for generations.” The third stonecutter understood that his labor was not just about the task at hand, but about contributing to something lasting and meaningful. His work was a service to the future, a legacy that would inspire and endure. Now, how do you Infuse Purpose into Your Work: 1. See the Bigger Picture: Understand how your daily tasks contribute to a larger purpose. This mindset can transform routine work into something deeply meaningful. 2. Lead with Impact: Consider how your work serves others. Whether it’s your team, customers, or community, focus on the positive impact you’re creating. 3. Create a Lasting Legacy: Think about the legacy you want your work to leave behind. Align your efforts with that vision to ensure your labor has a lasting impact. Which is your Call to Action? As this Labor Day passes by, take time to reflect on how you can bring more purpose and joy into your work. Ask yourself: How does my labor positively impact those around me? How can I serve others through what I do? Let this reflection guide you in making every task an opportunity to contribute to something greater. Your work is more than just a job—it’s a gift, a legacy that leaves a lasting positive change in the world, truly making it a brighter place ????? #LaborDay #PurposeDrivenWork #ServiceToOthers #LegacyBuilding #ImpactAndInspire Thank you credits Tony Robbins for his timeless inspiration and motivation.
