Learnings From The Best-Selling Board Games Of All Time My good friend John Polson ????? (DICE and GDC) highlighted this fun infographic he saw the other day on the best-selling board games of all time. This was fun to look at, and certainly, we could have many healthy debates about this list for things like: * Inclusion of titles such as card games and tabletop games like Dungeons and Dragons * Data accuracy because of titles that are surely missing like Carcassonne (15M+ copies), Ticket to Ride (10M+ copies), Codenames (millions sold), and Pandemic (5M+ copies, I believe)...and perhaps others * When some of the older games were invented (Chess was invented in the 6th century, I believe) Still, a few directional things, which I'm confident are accurate, are fascinating: * If you're looking for a board game ever hotter than Monopoly, I believe it's accurate that there are only two, and they were both invented at least 1,400 years ago or more * I am fairly confident that if we cut off with Stratego, unless someone advises otherwise, there are in fact only 16 games that have sold 20M copies or more. * Cross-checking this last bullet with video games, I am pretty sure 60+ titles have hit that 20M mark and all were made exclusively in the past 40 years, half of them-ish by Nintendo. It really speaks to the amazing strength of the industry * It is interesting that a higher-profile version of Checkers or Chess hasn't really cracked it beyond commodity games. I loved Battle Chess when I was a kid, but I think that only sold in the low hundreds of thousands * I still wish there was a great video game version of Fireball Island, whether on this list or not * ...and how about newer, more imaginative versions of Axis and Allies! What other interesting thoughts jump out to you? Again, know the list isn't perfect, but it is a conversation starter!

Block Magic Puzzle https://lnkd.in/dXgeRuES Do you enjoy inlay matching games? Then play the brainteaser and match blocks on the board in a free online 10x10 puzzle game. The brainteaser features 4 matching modes. In the Classic mode your aim is to place block shapes on the board and try to fill vertical or horizontal lines. The tetris shapes come three at a time. The game ends when you cannon fit the shapes on the board. The Advanced mode is practically the same puzzle, but with more intricate tetris blocks. In the Blast mode, bombs would appear randomly on the board, so that you have to match blocks and remove relevant lines before the countdown expires. The Timed mode makes you match blocks fast enough to fill the meter above the board. Finally, the Challenge mode of the brainteaser combines all the features for the ultimate block matching survival. Good Games: -Long term gains -Relationships -Delayed gratification Stupid Games: -Short term gains -Transactions -Instant gratification If you play good games you will get good prizes. If you play stupid games, well...., you will get stupid prizes. So don't blame the other players or blame the game. As an avid #gamer myself, it's only fitting to celebrate my birthday by sharing some great upcoming games that you may have not noticed yourself yet! ?? So, I curated a list of 4 games that comes out TODAY July 15th (in most of the timezones) on #Steam and why you should check them out!?? The video below is a montage of these games' trailers. Let's begin! 1. ?? The Crust ?? "Automate a lunar base as you become the savior of humanity exploring the future on the moon. Mine, craft, research, and trade resources with Earth in this gripping narrative basebuilder." You've probably heard about this upcoming #EarlyAccess title developed by VEOM Studio and published by Crytivo. It's a space base builder and a colony sim with a very interesting premise and A LOT, and I mean A LOT, of different systems. I wish the team a great EA phase starting today ?? 2. ?? Fallen Leaf ?? "Fallen Leaf is a retro side-scrolling adventure focused on tight, action-packed level design set in a whimsical world where almost anything goes!" Now, this game by Delta Shore Games, is a nostalgia-filled journey reminding me of classic #GBA and similar titles. The chiptune soundtrack, the exquisite pixel-art, the level design... it all comes together to form this unique adventure! Best of luck with the release ?? 3. ??Supernatural?? "Detective Wyatt confronts a chilling mystery as he investigates a housemaid's disappearance. Unearth sinister secrets as you navigate through a haunted house, where every shadow hides a lurking terror." Now, this is an interesting case, as I'm usually not drawn to #horror genre in general... but this game looks so unique and ambitious for a solo dev Hitori De Productions. The twist here is that you are being listened to and you can utilize your microphone in-game. If that's not enough to convince you, the graphics are so realistic and creepy... I don't know if I will be able to play it right away, but I'll be sure looking closely at this release ?? 4. ?? You Have To Climb Out ?? "A short narrative puzzle experience about a lost frog who has dug too far into the sand during a beach day. Use your trusty shovel to move blocks and create paths for you to continue upward." I've recently finished Animal Well (loved it so much) and I wanted MORE! Today, while browsing, I came across this tiny indie game made by a solo dev Matt Goode. This game is just what I was looking for! Short, pretty and filled with indie spirit - if I were to choose for you to check only 1 game from the list, then You Have To Climb Out would be it! ??
