??WEBINAR: How the voluntary sector can navigate local government financial difficulty Date: 20 November Time: 11am Financial difficulties within many local authorities - sometimes leading to the issuing of a section 114 notice (s114) - are affecting voluntary sector organisations and communities across the country. Our recent research with NAVCA (https://ow.ly/Tu5y50TRqYW) provides recommendations for the voluntary sector for navigating these circumstances, as well as policy recommendations for local and central government. At our webinar on 20 November, 11am, we'll discuss the stages of financial difficulty a local authority might experience, and the significant impact these can have on the local voluntary sector. We'll offer some suggestions for voluntary sector organisations to help navigate the stages and mitigate the impact on communities, bringing insights from voluntary sector groups and local infrastructure organisations involved in the research. Yesterday IMPOWER’s Mark Lloyd CBE and Martin Ellender took part in a roundtable jointly facilitated with CIPFA. The discussion started by asking “are there any good savings left for local government?” and we emerged to the news that the next general election had been set! Our participants, from across local public services, concluded that there are still ways for all but the most financially distressed authorities to put better outcomes at the heart of their financial planning. However, we need the next government to grasp opportunities that will enable the public sector to deliver better outcomes for less. By testing new models of reform, and maybe even refreshing successful initiatives from the recent past, now is the time for the sector to embrace innovation and cross-boundary working. ?
