This beautiful thatched roof cottage is our home for a month. How is that possible? ?? We belong to a community of housesitters. It’s a wonderful way to benefit from the support needs that arise in times of change. ?? We use two websites where we meet homeowners. There are messages and video chats exchanged before we agree with the homeowners that we have found a good match. ?? On this particular occasion, our homeowners are visiting their children in Australia. We have renovations happening so needed somewhere to live and work. ?? We chose a location that is close to family and friends that we have not seen for a long time. ?? We selected a beautiful home in the countryside to be immersed in nature. ?? In this case there are no animals, but it provides the owners know their rural home is not empty. Other times we care for animals. In those situations, we also like to meet the animals via photos or videos to make sure we can fall in love with them and give them the care an owner would expect. The most common question we get from people who have not tried this lifestyle is how do people just trust strangers in their home? We have spent most of our lives travelling so we have learnt that it is easy to meet trusted humans quickly. People with rescue pets avoid kennels as that may trigger trauma. So what do we get out of it? We travel like a local instead of a tourist. ?? We save money and demonstrate resourcefulness on a low budget. ?? We connect with new communities of people, which is the most wonderful and wisest way to connect with humanity . ?? I thrive from my love of travel so my clients get an even better version of me. ???? ?? We increase our empathy and compassion with ourselves and others. That’s just a few of the untold benefits of this beautiful way to live. We don’t use big well-known websites. We tend to use smaller community-based ones so that we get to know people and they ask us to return and we build an even more trusted community that way. Sometimes people ask us what we charge, and I always say zero because I truly believe this is one of the most inspiring ways to share and support strangers without any transactions. I’m not in the habit of posting other people's houses online, as we take privacy very seriously but I think this photo is secure enough and does not give anything away other than its beauty.

It's important to stay connected when you've made a big move. 1. Schedule video calls, phone chats, and email exchanges with friends and family. 2. Join clubs, groups, or classes. 3. Attend events, volunteer, or join a neighborhood association. Weaving yourself into the community can help you feel included and build meaningful connections.
