Happy International Biodiversity Day! ?? We are thrilled to share WSP in the UK’s first Nature Positive Report, showcasing our commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable practices. This report highlights our efforts to integrate Nature Positive principles into our everyday operations and our progress in reversing nature loss. Working on this report with Jenny Merriman, Ben O'Hickey and Margot Greenen has been a highlight of my first 7 months at WSP in the UK. Report Highlights: - Conducted a comprehensive materiality assessment to understand our environmental impact. - Engaged in extensive knowledge-sharing initiatives to promote Nature Positive practices within our team. - Adhered to the Nature Positive Business Pledge, emphasising the protection and restoration of ecosystems. This collaboration pioneers a modular credit system that weaves biodiversity and social impact into a unified framework, setting a new standard for environmental accountability and driving measurable benefits for nature and local communities alike. ? How does it work? Modular Use: These credits can enhance co-benefits of carbon projects or stand alone as a metric for social and biodiversity outcomes. Global Impact: Projects worldwide will benefit, supporting sustainable livelihoods and biodiversity uplift for communities and ecosystems. ? By tracking metrics like biodiversity gains, the level of benefit sharing and the strength of local governance, Nature Stewardship Credits make conservation and restoration beneficial for both people and planet. Why do we have to talk about biodiversity? This week, GOLDBECK SOLAR and GOLDBECK organized the event "Together for more biodiversity" to discuss this question. Therefore, we also welcomed Dr. Frauke Fischer from the Agentur auf! to share her expertise in biodiversity with us. ?? "Beyond the obvious - Why we talk about biodiversity" was the title of Dr. Frauke Fischer's keynote speech. Basically, biodiversity is our best bet when it comes to how we can save our planet, she explained. With a large variety of plants and animals, we can cool the earth, absorb carbon and improve our climate. But we humans only look at the crisis that is right in front of us. We ignore long-term problems. Frauke Fischer warns: "Globally, we have used up all the resources we had available for last year in August 2023. In Germany, we will reach this point at the beginning of May." ??? Michael Ruland from GOLDBECK addressed how nature-positive construction works. Finally, Dr. Michael Six and Dr. Frauke Fischer discussed the impulses in a panel discussion with Joachim Goldbeck and Dr. Kati Herzog, Head of ESG at GOLDBECK. ??
