This past week at my internship, I learned lots about video shooting and the pros and cons of mounting the camera to a tripod, shooting by hand, or using a Gimbal. A Gimbal is a tool that can be programmed to minimize choppy and uneven movement while taking a video. Having never used one before, it was really cool to experiment with and compare to other video methods! Provo School District CTE Internships #provointerns #provocte #cteinternships?#photography

Are you a tattoo artist? Do you know a tattoo artist - can be independent or employed by a studio? Are you someone with connections to the beauty & fashion industry? I've seen the hard work going into creating this apprenticeship standard of late - it not only provides the opportunity to create future career opportunities but also allows people from lower socio-economic backgrounds, mid career-career changers & those who were struggling to break into an industry an opportunity to work and study while embarking on their dream career. ?????? But we need your help! ???? We're asking for current tattoo artists, apprentices & business owners (particularly those within the tattoo space) to complete this survey to ensure the apprenticeship is required and is reflective of employers needs when it comes to training the next generation of tattoo artists.? This apprenticeship will mean many small businesses, studios and studio groups will be able to provide career pathways for future tattoo artists leading to a more inclusive, diverse recruitment pool & mean the tattoo artists of tomorrow can make their dreams a reality today. If you're not a tattoo artist but know someone, feel free to tag them in the comments, or share this post with them. ? You can access the survey here to participate: https://lnkd.in/eYagbpTt Survey closes: 25 March 2024 #TattooArt #TattooArtist #Apprenticeship #EarlyTalent #Development #ApprenticeshipStandard #FashionIndustry #BeautyIndustry #BackTheFuture

Mastering Professionalism: A Way of Seeing the World When a friend started teaching watercolour painting, I joined her class, mainly to support her rather than to learn how to paint. Feel free to congratulate me on completing the course – but don’t expect me to be an artist! I was and remain a hopeless painter, and made only marginal improvements. But what I did learn was far more valuable: a new way of seeing the world. Before the course, I saw trees as simply green. Now I notice the subtle shifts in colour as sunlight hits leaves differently throughout the day. I can't translate this into art, but I began to see the world through the eyes of an artist. This shift in perspective got me thinking about professionalism. We often focus on the skills and knowledge required for a role, but rarely do we ask ourselves: ?? How does a professional see the world? ?? How does their unique lens shape their approach and actions? When I took that painting course, I was already competent at my job. Yet, I realised I lacked structure and left too many loose ends. I had the skills, but not the clarity that comes from truly seeing your work as a professional would. If you're starting your career, I encourage you to take up something new – maybe even watercolour painting. But more importantly, be open to changing the way you view the world. Don’t just watch what professionals do – seek to understand how they see the world in their work. That’s where real growth begins. ___________________________________________________________________________ If you’re keen to develop the next generation of professionals and equip them with the tools they need to excel, direct message me via LinkedIn. Together, we can shape a workforce that truly understands what it means to be professional. ??? I have a life commitment to helping young people and career starters develop their very own personal professionalism. That helps them - and the people who employ them! #professional #professionalism #professionaldevelopment #personaldevelopment #management #leadership #earlycareers #graduates #apprentices #internships #emergingtalent

If you're #interning this summer, you might already be onboarding and looking forward to acquiring new skills. What’s truly amazing, though, are the unexpected lessons and experiences that lie ahead. I was set to be a photography and marketing #intern for Phillips Petroleum in the summer of my last year of college. My primary contact was Jerry Poppenhouse who was one of the first graphic designers to use photography as his main artistic medium. In his 27 years with Phillips, Jerry became one of the most widely traveled photographers in the company's history, going through at least three fully stamped passports; every stamp recalling a new series of wild adventures. My college crew meanwhile was happily on their way to Honolulu to take a three-hour class on Hawaiian history over the summer. But I had this awesome #internship planned! On my first day, I learned that there were to be some #changes to what I had expected. Jerry was called to a month-long photography stint on an oil platform in the North Sea and it was not decked out for women at that time so I could not go. Instead, I worked for several departments at Phillips including the patent attorneys in the Research Center and the newly formed IT computing group in the windowless Borg ship-like building. I remember receiving a badge which was required for the IT building, but somehow had a problem with wearing it. I remember telling my new security officer friends, "I don't need a stinkin' badge." At the end of summer, one of the guards presented me with a custom drawn caricature of me tossing the badge in the air. Loved those guys. I also learned how to do things I didn't like. Perhaps that's one of the most important lessons to learn early in your career. I was once asked by a patent attorney to take shorthand for a letter. I didn't know shorthand and he proceeded to spray out a bunch of words lightning fast. I began to ask questions and he said, "No. Write it." I was probably more vexed that he thought I should know shorthand because I was female, but hey, it was the 80s. And it taught me to that not everyone realizes that I've got more to offer. Be cool. Don't be uncool. So, if you're #interning this summer, here are a few #nontraditional takeaways to look for: 1. Get to know the people well. One or two of them might help you in five years when you're applying for a job. Sometimes the #connections help you more than the skills and abilities. 2. Spend time taking care of yourself and work at your own pace. An internship is like a #bardo. an intermediate transitional state between school and real life, which allows you to learn and make mistakes without too many consequences. This is the easiest it will get before you take a full-time job. 3. Connect with others interns at the same company or in the same city and start #networking. They will be lifelong friends. ??

As I sit back and reflect on that challenging internship, a rush of memories floods my mind, carrying with them a mix of emotions – frustration, perseverance, and ultimately, growth. It was a time when the thin line between my academic knowledge and the practical demands of the professional world became glaringly evident. Yet, amid the challenges, there were moments of triumph. Each successfully completed task became a beacon of hope, a reminder that perseverance could overcome even the most daunting obstacles. I remember the satisfaction of solving a particularly perplexing problem or delivering a presentation that garnered positive feedback. These small victories were the fuel that kept me going, pushing me to overcome the hurdles that threatened to derail my journey. As I reminisce about that difficult internship, I can't help but recognise the valuable lessons it had. It was more than just a period of professional development; it was a crucible that tested my resilience, adaptability, and determination. In retrospect, the difficulties became stepping stones, propelling me towards a stronger, more capable version of myself. Cheers to my last chapter of year 3 at NAFA.
