Last year we conducted local Vital Signs research to understand our community's most pressing needs. The need for "Sustaining Community Infrastructure" is one of the focus areas that emerged. The public and private sectors are currently faced with the need to repair and replace aging infrastructure - the need is also apparent for the nonprofit sector. However, while building and equipment is crucial to the operations of any organization, nonprofit organizations often find it challenging to secure funding to address these crucial needs. In alignment with this research, we also provide support to charitable organizations whose programs address the Vital Signs focus areas, including those affected by aging infrastructure. ICYMI: Last week, four local nonprofit organizations were awarded more than $47,000 in funding through the Community Foundation of Southern Indiana’s (CFSI) Capacity Building and Community Assist grant programs, which empowers nonprofits serving Clark and Floyd counties by addressing operating needs and funding impactful projects. In addition to these quarterly grants, CFSI awarded an additional $10,000 to the Homeless Coalition of Southern Indiana to support its White Flag Shelter, which provides life-saving refuge during extreme weather. Half of the grant – $5,000 – came from the Foundation’s unrestricted Community Impact Fund. The remaining $5,000 was contributed by an anonymous CFSI donor through their Donor Advised Fund, doubling the impact to $10,000. Story: https://lnkd.in/eDP2jaaz

Endowments are permanent resources, invested to grow over time, and a percentage is distributed each year through grants to nonprofit organizations. If just 5% of the wealth being passed down in Linn County over the next 20 years is placed in charitable endowments, local nonprofits could benefit from $75 million in grants. The Sizewell C Community Fund is proud to support Young People Taking Action (CYDS). CYDS has recently been awarded just over ￡19,000 for youth engagement and detached outreach work. With over 20 years of supporting young people in and around Leiston, CYDS is well-placed to support young people living in areas impacted by the Sizewell C construction. With the funding, CYDS will be able to collate data and insights to inform a strategy for future youth work in the area over the longer term. The Sizewell C Community Fund will provide up to ￡23m to local charities, community groups and organisations which are delivering projects that benefit local communities in East Suffolk. We're grateful that the Oakville Community Foundation has identified community mental health as one of its key priorities. Ontarians are experiencing an increase in mental health and substance use challenges. People are struggling to keep up with rising costs and economic pressures. Young donors are more likely than their older peers to donate spontaneously, and nonprofits can still retain these donors through regular detailed updates, according to new research from the Blackbaud Institute. “First Impressions: Spontaneous Giving Insights” surveyed 1,003 spontaneous donors in June to see what led them to give and what would inspire them to give to the same cause again. The report defined spontaneous gifts as “unplanned, first-time donations to a nonprofit.” Many nonprofits assume that spontaneous giving is largely to disaster and emergency-related charities, but the report found that a wide variety of causes benefit from such gifts.
