For #bcorpmonth, I've written about the the model for sustainable businesses that we developed to help us guide our partner brands and what we look for when we look at investing in a brand. Rather than focusing on specific impacts, this is about the underlying processes that embed sustainability, keep action material to your business, and make it authentic and purposeful. This is built out of our own sustainability journey, speaking to many brands, and the huge wealth of knowledge gained from B Corp certification and our network of sustainability experts. ?? · ? I was lucky enough to head to Aotearoa, New Zealand this week (Queenstown to be precise) with some awesome business leaders and human beings from YPO Sydney. At the same time, this video from Sustainable Business Council NZ was shared with me by another passionate advocate of triple bottom line leadership (profit, people and planet) and it felt like the perfect serendipity. It speaks to the importance of keeping the accelerator on sustainability, even during times when the financial gas might be running low -?a topic (in an accent!) close to my heart. My key takeaways: Think long-term, especially in tough times:?It’s easy to get caught up in short-term pressures, but the real magic happens when we consider the long-term impacts on how we operate and how consumers connect with our brands. We’ve got to do the right thing for the long haul. Small changes = big results:?Little steps can lead to massive shifts across the organisation. Highlighting and encouraging internal change is crucial - and guess what? Financial benefits tend to follow. Sustainability needs to be baked into your strategy:?It’s not about pressuring your CFO on how to fund discrete initiatives - it’s about making sure sustainability is part of the long-term vision and annual business planning. When it’s embedded at the top, the whole team gets on board. Align every team:?Consistent messaging from leadership all the way through to the board ensures alignment. Every part of the business should understand and commit to sustainability, not just ticking boxes. Break free from just short-term financial focus:?We need to deliver today and Embrace a?vision driven by values, with a longer-term, intergenerational approach. Embracing the duality of realism and ambition are critical as we tackle the stark realities of an unsustainable future. The journey may not be perfect, but incremental wins and progress are key to getting to the destination. Progress over perfection! https://lnkd.in/gCSiCS-J #ProgressOverPerfection #SustainableLeadership

Last week I had the privileged opportunity to attend the B For Good Leaders summit in Amsterdam! It was energising and inspiring to spend time with leaders and experts coming together to change the world, and the world of business, for good! Some key takeaways for me: 1. We absolutely need to move away from extractive and towards regenerative - in all we do! 2. Fleshing out the concept of ‘moral ambition’ - the will to make the world a wildly different place Rutger Bregman 3. Turning our movement and motion into progress - we need to take action! 4. The world has all the finance needed to significantly turn the dial - we need to fight to secure capital and ensure no one is left behind. At Namene we are determined in our purpose of making the world a better place. We are dedicated to building on our current success by finding new solutions to bring energy access to the 700 million still living without access to electricity. Making a difference takes collaboration. We’d love to hear from likeminded businesses as we look to work together to create change! #regenerativeeconomy #sustainability #corporateactivism #SDGs #energyaccess #cleanenergy #corporatepartnerships

Leaders should evaluate sustainability issues rationally, focusing on outcomes over labels, questioning assumptions, and recognising diminishing returns and trade-offs. Very much enjoyed my conversation with Alex Edmans of London Business School discussing the concept of 'rational sustainability' - an evidence-based approach to sustainability that focuses on long-term value creation rather than politics or ideology. A timely new episode of #LeadershipConversations by The Sustainability Board: https://lnkd.in/e8CDXXrJ

?? ?? ??This is going to be phenomenally interesting conversation from 2 industry leaders in shifting the paradigm for the advertising, media and creative industry. As we shift away from business as usual (BAU) to long term well being for all (LTWFA) this is a n industry that will need to really examine the impact of their work on environment and society. To lead a resilient future we need creative industries to be at the forefront of telling the RIGHT stories - not the greenwashing tales that do little to change the outcome. Big discussion and interesting for all regardless of your industry. This is a Be Better members event for leaders in sustainability - however I know that I have invited some of you interested in understanding more of what the membership is about. Please can you make sure I know if you want to attend so that I can include you in the invitation. ??????
