The Power and Propulsion Element (PPE) is the power plant for Gateway, the moon-orbiting space station that will support the success of NASA’s Artemis program. To generate the 60 kilowatts of required power, the PPE is designed with sophisticated multi-junction solar cell technologies. However, multi-junction cell designs are complex and prohibit testing through conventional methods. Programmable LED solar simulator (pLEDss) technology delivers the necessary performance to qualify the sophisticated solar cells that enable Gateway’s success.
