?? Applauding Vanessa Brettell and Hannah Costello: Empowering Women Through Social Enterprise Vanessa Brettell and Hannah Costello, co-founders of Stepping Stone | Social Enterprise Cafe, have created a social enterprise that provides employment opportunities and support to women facing barriers to employment. Their initiative reflects the core principles of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially: - SDG 5: Gender Equality: By empowering women with skills and employment, they actively promote gender equality and women's economic participation. - SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth: Their café offers fair employment opportunities, contributing to inclusive and sustainable economic growth. Being recognized as Australia's Local Heroes highlights the significant impact of community-driven solutions in fostering equality and economic development. Gender equality is going backwards. Between 2019 and 2022, nearly 40% of countries – home to more than 1 billion women and girls – stagnated or declined on gender equality. The SDG Gender Index, published today by Equal Measures 2030, a coalition of NGOs, found that no country has, so far, achieved the promise of gender equality envisioned by the UN’s 2030 sustainable development goals (SDGs) Thanks Annette Young for sharing. ?? Breaking the Broken Rung ?? One of the most significant barriers to gender equality in the workplace is the "broken rung" – the challenge women face at the first step up to manager. This crucial promotion often determines future career trajectory, yet data shows that women, particularly women of color, are frequently overlooked. ?? Why does this matter? - When women are not promoted to managerial positions, the pipeline for senior leadership becomes predominantly male. - Diverse leadership teams drive better business outcomes through varied perspectives and innovative thinking. ?? What can we do? - Mentorship & Sponsorship: Senior leaders should actively mentor and sponsor high-potential women. - Bias Training: Implementing unconscious bias training can help managers make more equitable promotion decisions. - Transparent Metrics: Tracking promotion rates and setting targets for gender diversity ensures accountability. ?? By addressing the broken rung, we can create a more inclusive and equitable workplace where everyone has the opportunity to succeed. Let's commit to breaking barriers and lifting each other up! ?? What Are You Gonna Tell Her? (https://lnkd.in/gvivxwuT) by Mickey Guyton isn’t just a song—it’s a powerful question, an emotional conversation, and a call for change. It beautifully captures the hopes, dreams, and challenges that girls and young women face in a world that often places limits on their rights and opportunities. In a time where hard-won rights feel increasingly at risk, the lyrics invite us to reflect on the future we’re building. Are we empowering young women to reach their potential, or are we letting limitations persist? Guyton’s message also reminds us of the dreams still unrealized—like the vision of a female president—pointing to the work we have left to do to achieve true gender equality. Whether we’re colleagues, mentors, or leaders, let’s recognize the importance of lifting each other up and creating spaces where everyone can thrive. Together, we can build a future where all dreams are within reach, no matter who you are or where you come from. #GenderEquity #EqualOpportunity #EmpowerWomen #InclusionMatters #DiversityAndInclusion #WomenRights #SocialJustice #StandForChange #WhatAreYouGonnaTellHer #Leadership #EqualityForAll #Progress #LiftEveryVoice #FutureOfWork #RespectAndDignity #InclusiveLeadership #LinkedInCommunity #ProfessionalCommunity #SupportWomen #TogetherForChange #EqualVoices #WomenInTheWorkforce #FemaleLeadership

C'mon Barbie, let's go… Make a new world, full of equality. Five years ago, Mattel launched a campaign called Dream Gap, which highlights the cruel fact that girls dream freely about their future until the age of five, but afterwards, they increasingly give up on dream jobs or dream positions because they see that this is how the world works. The world does indeed work a bit like this, one of the most tangible proofs being the #GenderPayGap, which makes the situation more unfair for women around the world, both at work and at home. Among other things, WeAreOpen also fights to work together to end the gender pay gap and to ensure that pay truly measures talent. And of course, we fight for the girls as well. After all, how will someone become a leader if they give up on it at age five? Join us in our fight and download our Action Plan for closing the gender pay gap. ?? https://lnkd.in/d3nARYce #WeAreOpen #NyitottakVagyunk #MindTheGenderGap #GenderPayGap
