Because through our work at And Beyond, we are really trying to make things better wherever we can, wherever companies will listen and choose to do the work to make it a more positive experience for working mothers. Inclusion action 2??1??: #WorkingWhilePregnant - does your office offer pregnancy parking? It’s time it should ?????? I’m 35 weeks pregnant and MASSIVE. Last week, I had to climb from the drivers seat of my car to the passenger seat so I could get out… Walking (even short distances) is embarrassingly exhausting and painful now ?? Accessibility has become an everyday consideration for when and where I travel. And that applies to work too! So what’s my call to action? ?? Ensure pregnant women commuting by car can park close to the office entrance (repurpose/ use a disabled space, if needed) ?? Last week, I talked to Jessica Craft about the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act and the PUMP Act. She's pretty passionate about these laws and helped break them down for my audience. One of the key parts of this law is that it requires an interactive process between the employee and the employer to figure out what is going to be the most appropriate and reasonable accommodations. Inclusion action 1??9??: #WorkingWhilePregnant - Touching the pregnant belly… Can you, can’t you? ?? ????People love touching pregnant bellies… It’s hard to articulate why but something about a tiny human miracle living inside another human is too intriguing! AND this somehow translates to think we should touch the pregnant belly. ?? I caution you ?? There are very few scenarios in a work setting where this is acceptable. These are, in my opinion: ? The person asking is BOTH a colleague and close personal friend ? The person asking is BOTH your colleague and parent to your unborn child Anyone else, I’d recommend you don’t put the person in an awkward position. So what’s my call to action? ??♀? Generally speaking, there’s no good reason to be touching women in your workplace. Best to just NOT. ?? And if you choose to ignore my advice in the presence of a pregnant belly ALWAYS ask permission/ consent. What’s your experience #WorkingWhilePregnant with touching?
