We extend our #design #philosophy beyond Santa Barbara and Portland, crafting projects close to national parks like?OfLand Hotel in Escalante, Utah. Our work emphasizes a deep connection to undisturbed #nature, blending #architecture with the natural landscape. We are passionate about creating spaces that foster a harmonious relationship between built #environments and the outdoors, which respects and #celebrates nature's beauty. Photo by Mikal Kelaidis

In the heart of the Karoo desert, a rustic courtyard emerges as a sanctuary from the intense midday heat. Surrounded by weathered stone walls that reflect the region's earthy tones, the courtyard is a harmonious blend of nature and craftsmanship. A sturdy pergola, draped with climbing vines and vibrant bougainvillea, creates a patchwork of dappled light and shade, offering a cool respite from the blazing sun. Beneath this natural canopy, traditional wooden benches and handcrafted tables invite visitors to gather and relax. Potted succulents and aromatic herbs thrive in the warm air, adding splashes of green and enticing scents that enliven the space. The gentle rustle of leaves in the breeze and the distant call of desert birds create a soothing soundtrack, enhancing the sense of tranquility. As the sun beats down relentlessly outside, this rustic courtyard stands as an oasis, providing not just physical shade but also a welcoming atmosphere to escape the harshness of the desert. It’s a perfect spot for quiet reflection, shared meals, or simply enjoying the unique beauty of the Karoo landscape. #Architecture #ArchitecturalDesign #SustainableArchitecture #UrbanDesign #InteriorDesign #LandscapeArchitecture #SmartCities #BuildingDesign #ConstructionInnovation #ArchitectureLovers #GreenBuilding #ModernArchitecture #ArchitecturePhotography #DesignThinking #BiophilicDesign #AdaptiveReuse #UrbanPlanning #FutureOfArchitecture #ArchitecturalInspiration #DesignForGood DM us for all your architectural rendering requirements.

Biophilia Biophilia, the innate human attraction to nature, is a concept that has profoundly influenced architecture, interior design, and urban planning. This principle is based on the idea that humans have an inherent desire to connect with nature and natural processes. By incorporating elements of nature into built environments, biophilia aims to create spaces that promote physical and mental well-being. How can biophilic design be effectively integrated into modern urban environments to improve residents' quality of life? #BiophilicDesign #NatureMeetsArchitecture #UrbanGreening #WellBeingThroughNature #SustainableLiving #NatureInDesign #UrbanOasis #HealthyHabitats

The concept of "shakkei" or borrowed landscape emphasizes the seamless integration of surrounding environmental elements—like plants—into interior and exterior spaces. This approach not only addresses site-specific acoustic challenges but also helps reduce anxiety levels and supports neurodiverse individuals in better understanding their spatial orientation within a building. #Architecture #InteriorDesign #Wellbeing #InclusiveDesign #SustainableArchitecture #GreenSpaces #EnvironmentalDesign

Mystic Mayappott - This is one of the initial projects of the firm that, to this day, fetches us clients. Built as a private plantation bungalow, Mystic Mayappott started functioning as a three room resort in 2004. In 2021, it underwent a renovation, adding two more rooms. The site was unique in that it made one constantly mindful of the power of Nature. Our effort was merely to not diminish this experience with the design of our structure. But in order to create an architecture that’s subtle and merging, we had to come up with a design approach that was bold and unconventional. Because the architectural design process was strongly guided by the natural elements on site like the stream, the huge boulders, large trees etc., execution of the project had to take a non-traditional approach. Spaces and functions were accommodated within the boundaries already set by Nature. The plan of the spaces was drawn on site first and this was later transferred to the drawing board for detailing. Instead of cutting down Nature to accommodate the functions, we accepted the restraints and planned the functions around them. Due to this, we have rocks sticking out here and there inside the house, some rooms have rocks as walls, the house itself splits in three parts by the stream and the boulder; existing trees are accommodated in courtyards. Special attention is given to the planting palette so that the space does not feel ‘planted’. Native endemic species are carefully chosen as starters and then Nature was allowed to take it further, which she has happily obliged. #Design?#Architecture?#PrakrtiPaushtika?#ArchitecturalJourney?#MysticMayapott

Part of the architectural process is identifying and responding to the site's location. And this project had it in spades. Tucked within an existing mature woodland surrounding a luxury hotel, our brief was to produce a scheme for a luxury new spa and private, tranquil relaxation areas. Our client embraced our concept of raising the development up off the ground to put the spa higher in the canopy of trees. Dividing the spa into smaller parts – linked with raised walkways and covered bridges to give a more treehouse feel. Reducing the ground works and cladding the buildings in local timber were all fundamental in making it seem to 'disappear' within the landscape. ?? Architectural drawings often come in for much scrutiny and opinion! In this instance, we left the colour on the woodland, and kept the architecture greyscale. What do you think...does it work? #SustainableArchitecture #NatureInspiredDesign #ArchitecturalInnovation #ElevatedDesign
