Inside Gainsborough: When working on a new project or cloth, there is technical work that must be done prior to manufacture. Technical adjustments and changes are often ongoing throughout the trialling process whilst the cloth is on the loom for the first time. Photographed is one of our older records of this trialling process. A small draft is attached to a test piece showing how the effect has been created. On form and function. Who’s on first? - It all depends on what you’re creating. If the form is the function then the form is what drives the design. If the function is the form, then it drives the design. The closer you can align the two, the more elegant and crafted your output is. I follow a brutal functional-aesthetic that harmonizes structure+space. I strive to find the unique posture of function to which I can craft an aesthetic to. And yes there is push and pull.

Every great architectural marvel begins with a simple idea. Sketching is where these ideas take their first form, evolving from concepts to tangible designs.
