It was another inspiring semester of the Masters of Tall Buildings and Vertical Urbanism (MTBVU) program, a collaboration between the Illinois Institute of Technology College of Architecture and CTBUH! In the Fall 2024 design studio, "The Application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the Design of Tall Buildings," students explored the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and vertical urbanism to create smarter, more sustainable, and resilient skyscrapers. Design leaders Scott Duncan, Design Partner; Jorge Rovira, AIA, Senior Associate Principal; and Jason Fisher, AIA, Senior Associate Principal at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) challenged students to think beyond conventional architectural practices and integrate AI-driven processes into the design, construction, and management of tall buildings. Exploring sites in major U.S. cities, the students crafted innovative designs for smarter, more sustainable high-rise living. Key features in their visionary projects include: ?? AI-optimized energy systems, recycling, and vertical gardens. ??? Smart systems for living spaces and maintenance. ?? In-home health monitoring paired with dynamic space reconfiguration. Applications for MTBVU are now open: ?? Deadline for international students: 15 May ?? Deadline for domestic students: 1 August Learn more about applying here: https://lnkd.in/dS6vN-tZ We are proud to continue supporting the future leaders in vertical urbanism. It was fun and rewarding to teach the students about Unbonded Post-Tensioning in Skyscrapers. Congrats to the program and students who completed the course!
