???Only in 2024 the renewable energy projects, which are supported by?#Volkswagen, provided around 1.1 terawatt hours of electricity into the grid. That amount corresponds to the annual consumption of around 300,000 households! ???Volkswagen is currently supporting 26 solar and wind farms in nine European countries. The largest projects include facilities in northern Portugal and in Djupdal, Sweden. Why are we doing this? ?? What role do batteries play in the transition to electric trucks? ? An International Energy Agency (IEA) study predicts that energy storage capacity will need to increase sixfold by 2030 to enable a net-zero scenario by 2050. Because the electrification of road transport is picking up speed and demand for batteries increases. ? ?? To reach the required 1500 GW, about 90% of the required expansion would have to come from batteries, with utility-scale and behind-the-meter projects combined, and electric vehicles expected to account for the largest share in demand. ? So, the demand for battery storage, driven by the trends such as a growing electric vehicle and truck industry, renewable energy transition, and falling battery prices, means the battery storage market is growing at a fast rate. ? ?? Therefore, solutions to increase battery sustainability are key: Battery management software is key to making batteries more predictable, efficient and safe, and should not be overlooked. ? In my opinion solutions such as volytica diagnostics’ are more than necessary to ensure the commercial viability and safe operation of batteries. ? ?? And while electric trucks produce no tailpipe emissions and can be run on renewable energy through the grid, recycling the batteries that power these trucks is important and will grow strongly in the coming years. ?
