?? Boom! The Wall Street Journal primely features 8090 Industries portfolio company Ampaire led by industrialist Kevin Noertker as they pioneer hybrid electric aircraft into commercialization. Ampaire’s hybrid approach combines combustion and electric power into the same engine—a bit like basic hybrid cars. In essence, the electric power only kicks in when the engines need it most, such as taking off or increasing speed in flight, instead of helping to power the plane for the entire flight. The rest of the time, the plane relies on a smaller and more-efficient conventional engine that is optimized for cruising. Co-founder and CEO Kevin Noertker says it best: Our hybrid electric approach will drive fuel savings of roughly 50% on average. Ampaire will start by retrofitting popular models of planes that have long been in service — modifying nine-seat Cessna Grand Caravans to customers within two years and 19-seat De Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otters around a year afterward. Ultra-short takeoff and landing plane rakes in $8 billion in pre-orders By Loz Blain Electra's hybrid-electric STOL (short takeoff and landing) aircraft is one such plane. When it hits the market, it'll carry nine passengers, and a pilot, plus luggage, up to 500 miles (805 km) at a cruise speed around 200 mph (322 km/h). It'll run eight electric props along the leading edge of the wings, as well as large flaps hanging from the trailing edges. This allows a "blown lift" aerodynamic effect powerful enough that it'll lift off at a speed of just 35 mph (56 km/h). https://lnkd.in/dnN7mVeD #Electra #estol #stol #ev #eplane #trends #newatlas

Inspired by @Tesla's success in revolutionizing the automotive industry, New Horizon Aircraft (@newhorizoncraft) is poised to transform aviation with its innovative hybrid electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft, the Cavorite X7. This cutting-edge aircraft combines a patented fan-in-wing design with a hybrid electric power system, allowing it to take off and land vertically while reconfiguring for efficient horizontal flight. With a range of 500 miles, a top speed of 250 mph, and a 1,500lb payload capacity, the Cavorite X7 aims to outperform its competitors. Sustainability is a core focus for New Horizon Aircraft. The X7's hybrid electric system reduces fuel consumption and emissions by up to 30% compared to conventional aircraft. As battery technology advances, the company envisions a fully electric future for the Cavorite, further minimizing its environmental impact. Beyond urban air mobility, the Cavorite X7 is poised to revolutionize regional air travel, tapping into a market expected to reach $115 billion by 2035. Its versatility extends to applications like medical evacuation, disaster response, and search and rescue operations. While regulatory hurdles and public acceptance remain challenges, the aviation industry is on the cusp of a transformative shift, and New Horizon Aircraft is leading the charge with its vision for sustainable, efficient, and accessible air travel. #aviation #sustainability #evtol #urbanmobility #regionalmobility #newhorizonaircraft #cavorite

??? interesting review of electric future of regional aviation (including RAM). For this type of aircraft, there are several options (propeller vs ducted fan, hybrid vs fully electric, etc.) https://lnkd.in/esECDZ56 #electricaviation #netcarbonzero
Are ducted fans or electric propeller-driven aircraft ready to replace regional jets?

Is the battery industry ready to propel a new era of aviation? The experts speak Batteries could, at least in theory, prove to become the industry panacea that delivers?true zero-emissions flight. They already did the trick for cars. In less than two decades, starting from rather lackluster performances, electric cars have managed to outcompete their fossil-fuel-powered equivalents in several markets. But lifting an aircraft off the ground and getting it to fly fast and far is a challenge of a rather different magnitude. If you are looking for a Tesla-like version of your typical mid-sized airliner, you’d better be patient. Read more at: https://lnkd.in/dYMgEn2M #AviationTalk #aviationnews #avgeek #aviation

Will hydrogen power or battery power be the future fuel for aircraft? or Non of the above!
The battery technology is progressing at a "slow pace". There are promising new battery Technolgies being developed, but it will be 10 years are more to have the battery technology ready for mass production. The eVTOL will also need mini airports/vertiports so they have a place to recharge the aircraft. You will still have to get to the vertiport by Uber or car. Then when you fly to your next vertiport you will need a Uber to get to your final destination. The eVTOL air taxi business may have some flaws in the "door to door" experience. The Hopper Express is developing a "hybrid generator system" to produce electricity to power electric motors and fans for longer flight time. The generator will run on gasoline fuel but can also run on hydrogen in the future when the infrastructure is set up. Hopper Express Transportation is seeking sponsors and partners for the GoAero challenge. They are looking for a "First Responder Rescue Aircraft". www.GoAeroprize.com The website has contact information and a lot of pictures in the Gallery. www.hopper-express.com https://lnkd.in/guB7cjxb

#ICYMI: Electra Aero's eSTOL aircraft takes off from almost no runway! Electra.aero recently demonstrated the capabilities of its hybrid-electric test aircraft, the EL-2 Goldfinch, showcasing its ability to take off from extremely short runways. In a video released by Electra Aero, the eSTOL (Electric Short Take-Off and Landing) aircraft successfully lifted off from less than 170 feet during its trial flight, which is only about 10 percent of the typical runway length required for conventional aircraft. The aircraft achieved takeoff and landing speeds of around 28 to 29 miles per hour, thanks to its innovative "blown-lift design" that uses eight small electric-powered propellers, allowing it to get off the ground with minimal speed. Operating primarily on clean electric energy, the Goldfinch produces only 75 decibels of noise at 300 feet, noticeably quieter than traditional airplanes. Its hybrid design also cuts pollution, using 40 percent less fuel on a standard 100-mile route. Learn more and watch the video ? https://lnkd.in/exMwUjCN
