How is your employment history? #Autistic truth time. I disregarded my boundaries for employers until I was 26. Almost died from a #Concussion . Had a #Counselor say 'No your type of Autism can't work for just anyone in any environment."I have succeeded in some long-term employment. Failed in other full-time employment in jobs that didn't permit adequate self-care. Why do I post this? #Cliche #OverSharing right? Ah no. It is a good idea to have a window into how I operate & think especially if we were to ever meet or if we were to work together. No more jobs that prevent healthy bathing like working at camp. Or Jobs that cause depression like call centers. Or jobs that still allow workers to take insane risks. Like #GiantTiger does. #Dignified #Employment is possible. I have it now.

All individuals should have a safe space to relax, however, this can be challenging for autistic people whether in school or the workplace. Creating a sensory-friendly environment and being responsive to signals that the individual is feeling overwhelmed is essential to either leave the area or change your approach. We are #hiring! We are looking for a #PhDcandidate for the project 'High Expectations of Parents, Teachers, and Peers: Driver of Educational Success or Unhealthy Source of Performance Pressure among Children in Upper Primary School' The project focuses on parental, teacher and peer expectations as possible sources of performance pressure at school. We examine when high expectations promote children's school adjustment and when expectations become (too) demanding and create unhealthy levels of performance pressure and mental health problems. Supervision by Astrid Poorthuis, Sander Thomaes, and myself. https://lnkd.in/eqUcbC9k
