It's Hispanic Heritage Month! Our small lab benefits from scientists and staff of many nationalities and ethnicities, so it's a pleasure to highlight the contributions of a few. Without their energy and labor our contributions to the Department of Energy's goal of clean energy, materials innovation, and advances in basic science would look very different.

Happy National Science Day from AastraZen . Let us celebrate the day for the impact of science in our daily lives. Let us honour the contribution of scientists, researchers and analysts to make the world smarter. We require a victorious spirit, one that propels us to claim our deserved position under the sun. It's a spirit that acknowledges our status as heirs to a rich civilization, affirming our entitlement to occupy our rightful place on this planet. Should this indomitable spirit emerge, there will be no force capable of hindering us from realizing our destined future. Let us keep the journey on from smart meters- smart grid-smart city- smart state- smart country-smart world. ?

?? Now online, the conclusions of our Reciprocity Day at the Science Summit 2024 during the 79th #UNGA. Joining forces with Norges forskningsr?d to bring together experts from around the globe, we explored the critical importance of freedom to carry out research, equitable access to scientific information and research infrastructures, while considering science as a public good. The dialogue emphasised that co-creation of a human-centred, peaceful future is essential to meeting global challenges and achieving the #SustainableDevelopmentGoals. This requires rethinking the way we collaborate internationally, ensuring academic freedom, equity, and inclusion. What are the key takeaways from the discussion? ?? Place people and their diverse backgrounds at the heart of equitable partnerships, built on trust, dignity, and respect. ?? Embrace open science to ensure equitable access to scientific knowledge and information, and equitable access to research infrastructures, crucial for meaningful collaboration ??Prioritise scientific collaboration across borders as part of a country's strategic development. ?? Train researchers in enhanced inclusive collaboration methods, promoting South-South and North-South collaborations. ?? Facilitate the logistical aspects of global collaboration such as easing visa processes. ??Acknowledge the value of indigenous and local knowledge systems. Thanks to Mari Sundli Tveit, Declan Kirrane, Alejandro Adem, Matthias Koenig, Tolullah Oni, Claudia Romano, Jacqueline Ottmann, Dr Dorothy Ngila, Gabriela Ramos, Thandi Mgwebi, Amna Baloch, Osamu Kobayashi, Gagandeep Kang, Eduardo Ortega-Barria, pushkar sharma, Prue Williams and Francisco Javier Moreno Fuentes Download the conclusions here: bit.ly/40xAQPp

Holon has been one of the first studios in Spain to explore transition design, not only from a strategic perspective but also as a way of existing. For the past five years, it has operated as a cooperative where service and system design have been applied to cooperative housing, food systems, sustainable product design, and post-growth futures. This path of political commitment is not always easy, and precisely because of this, it's a pleasure and an honor to find such amazing partners for the journey. Holon is part of a groundbreaking experiment that brings together designers, policymakers, scholars, and political science students to rehearse interdisciplinary transition strategies. If you're considering delving deep into the ecosocial research arena aimed at addressing climate change from a rigorous perspective, consider applying to CoDesign4Transitions before the 26th of February.
Do you want to contribute to democratic just sustainability transitions? Apply now to CoDesign4Transitions, a 13 PhD Marie Curie funded positions before 26th of February. We are partners of the project and going to be mentoring two students, on circular design and policy design for transitions. Come to Barcelona and let's keep advancing both research and practice for transitions!

A special recognition from the CIMUSET Award Committee is given to the book "Race and Sociocultural Inclusion in Science Communication – Innovation, Decolonisation, and Transformation," edited by Elizabeth Rasekoala. The book is deserving of special mention as it is groundbreaking and comprehensive approach to addressing the multifaceted issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the science communication field and thereby for science museums and science centres. One of the most commendable aspects of this book is its focus on bridging the Global North-South divide in science communication. By challenging Eurocentric perspectives and advocating for Afrocentric and other non-Western worldviews, the book paves the way for a more balanced and representative global narrative. This is crucial in an era where global challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic have underscored the importance of inclusive and equitable scientific discourse.
