The sector is so diverse in terms of organisational size, structure, type, focus area etc, so hearing from a wide range of voices is really important for representation. Community services and advocacy is super important to Aotearoa New Zealand's social, economic and environmental wellbeing - however it's voice is under-represented in decision making compared with its impact! Contributing to research by filling out surveys is one way to mitigate that issue. And the results will help Community Governance Aotearoa plan its services to support good governance. It is clear that our current #health and #care system needs to be reformed. Increased focus on the social determinants of health is required to understand and address the underlying causes of poor health and #wellbeing in people’s lives, working from a model of #prevention rather than treatment. We had the pleasure of hosting Stephen Kinnock, Minister of State for Care, at the Centre today to showcase our innovative approach to support across health and wellbeing. The Bromley by Bow Centre is a hub for the community. Together with our partners, Bromley by Bow Health, we offer our #community a place and a space to come, be and connect. Our person-centred, #holistic, and #integrated support works because it builds on the relationships our community has with our Centre. Our message is simple: Only together can the Third Sector and the #NHS address the growing #HealthInequalities in our communities. Our health and care system must be based on community #empowerment. Community Centres must be included as decision makers for our country’s health and wellbeing. Our model needs long term, sustainable funding, in contrast to the current funding model available to us, so we can continue the work our community deserves. #CommunityHealth #Charity

I recently had the opportunity to visit SSSMILE Village, an old-age home, a place dedicated to providing care and support for those in need. During my visit, I observed some areas that could benefit from improvement, particularly regarding hygiene and the overall well-being of the elderly residents. It became clear to me that addressing these issues is essential for the health and dignity of those living there. However, the feedback I received from this writing was not positive as they didn't like me mentioning the negative side; I was asked to rewrite, focusing on the positives. While I understand the desire to focus solely on the positives, I believe that sharing constructive feedback is crucial for fostering growth and improvement. Every visit presents a chance to learn and identify areas where we can make a meaningful impact. I appreciate the efforts of the staff and volunteers who are dedicated to this mission. However, for SSSMILE Village to thrive and truly fulfill its mission of care, it’s important to acknowledge challenges openly. By doing so, we can work together to implement necessary changes that will enhance the quality of life for all residents. Let’s continue to support SSSMILE Village, not just by celebrating its successes but also by addressing the areas that need attention.
