To Young Lawyers Interested in Arbitration If you’re interested in arbitration, one of the key tools for building specialized knowledge is joining expert bodies that allow you to grow in this field through the programs they offer. Arbitration has become an integral part of today’s legal landscape, and there’s no need to feel intimidated by it. Arbitration rules are simply specialized procedural guidelines that any practicing lawyer can understand and apply, and the first step is getting to know these rules. Among the groups that have greatly benefited me in the field of arbitration are three organizations that I highly recommend joining: 1. Young International Arbitration Group (YIAG) by the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA): YIAG offers young practitioners a platform to discuss contemporary issues in international arbitration and engage with arbitrators worldwide. African Arbitration Association (AfAA): This association is focused on advancing arbitration in Africa, providing full membership benefits with access to educational resources and professional tools. Young ICCA: Supported by the International Council for Commercial Arbitration (ICCA), Young ICCA focuses on training young lawyers through mentorship and training programs. A link for registering to attend by Zoom is on this Durham University webpage: https://lnkd.in/geAmt8bM My paper will discuss the paradox that the UNCITRAL Expedited Arbitration Rules were intended for ad hoc arbitration but their models came essentially from institutions. The LMAA's SCP has been used in thousands of ad hoc international commercial arbitrations since it was introduced in 1989. UNCITRAL Working Group II would have benefited from studying some of the features of the SCP which have contributed to its continuing success, including the speed of commencement, appointment of an experienced sole arbitrator, a strict procedural timetable, a fixed fee, and a cap on the recovery of costs. Disintermediated arbitration has much to offer for smaller claims and for parties seeking quicker and cheaper resolution of their disputes.

Resource: How to Break Into International Arbitration: Useful Resources for Young Practitioners and Students Members of Signature Litigation Paris’ International Arbitration team, Partner Flore Poloni and Associate Kimberley Bazelais, were invited recently to contribute to ‘How to Break Into International Arbitration: Useful Resources for Young Practitioners and Students’, a key compendium and resource for aspiring arbitration practitioners worldwide. ‘How to Break Into International Arbitration: Useful Resources for Young Practitioners and Students’ is a widely used and relied upon resource in the arbitration community globally and was originated by renowned international arbitrator and mediator, Professor Mark Kantor. This resource is the product of a collaborative effort between the Georgetown International Arbitration Society (GIAS), Signature Litigation, and Young OGEMID (OGEL Energy Law / Transnational Dispute Management (TDM)). RUSSIAN ARBITRATION DAY 2025 Today we are excited to announce that the VIII Russian Arbitration Day is scheduled for May 19, 2025! Russian Arbitration Day (RAD) is a unique conference dedicated to the development of arbitration in Russia and abroad. Since its inception in 2013, the RAD has rightfully become one of the most successful in the CIS region. Over the years, the RAD has brought together 1,500 participants from Russia and abroad in an offline format, along with over 3,000 online users. Traditionally, following the conference, a collection of articles entitled "New Horizons of International Arbitration" will be published. The reports and articles for RAD and the digest are carefully selected on a competitive basis, which makes RAD a truly unique event not only for the community of legal practitioners, but also as a contribution to the legal academia as a whole. In 2025, the moderators will be: - Anna Arkhipova, PhD, Associate Professor at the Russian School of Private Law, Vice President of the Maritime Arbitration Commission at the Russian Chamber of Commerce; - Dmitry Kaysin, Partner at Better Chance, PhD in Law, LLM; - Andrey Panov, Partner, Head of International Arbitration and Litigation at Denuo. The India International Arbitration Centre has introduced the India International Arbitration Centre (Conduct of Micro and Small Enterprises Arbitration) Regulations, 2024 vide Notification No. F. No. A-60011/4/2024-Admin-IIAC dated June 04, 2024, came into force on June 07, 2024. Enacted under the powers conferred by section 31(2) of the India International Arbitration Centre Act, 2019, these regulations signify a progressive step towards fostering a conducive environment for the resolution of disputes involving micro and small enterprises (MSEs) in India. Key Highlights are as follows: (1) These regulations primarily focus on the conduct of arbitration proceedings specifically tailored for MSEs. They aim to provide a structured framework for the resolution of disputes involving MSEs, ensuring fairness, transparency, and efficiency in the process. (2) The regulations outline the process for filing statements of claim and defence, specifying the required details and timelines. Emphasis is placed on the submission of relevant documents and supporting evidence to facilitate a thorough examination of the dispute. (3) Arbitrators appointed under these regulations are required to disclose any past or present relationships, interests, or circumstances that may affect their independence or impartiality. (4) To expedite dispute resolution, a fast track procedure is introduced, allowing for the swift adjudication of disputes based on written pleadings, documents, and submissions. The regulations empower the Arbitral Tribunal to adopt measures conducive to expeditious disposal of cases while ensuring fairness and due process. (5) Provision is made for interim measures of protection, allowing parties to seek necessary relief during the pendency of arbitration proceedings. The Arbitral Tribunal is empowered to grant, modify, suspend, or terminate interim measures based on the merits of the case. (6) The regulations delineate the mechanism for determining the costs of arbitration, including arbitrator's fees, administration fees, and other expenses.
