This week APA applauds the final rule on parity which aims to ensure that Americans can access mental health care just as easily as medical care. This is the result of years of diligent advocacy work by APA Services and others in the mental health community. Learn more: https://at.apa.org/b6b7e7 #mentalhealth #advocacy #therapy
I have been reading about this for the last 2 days. Would anyone who provides mental health services (and accepts insurance) be willing to share from a practical and implementation perspective how this will impact your practice? What are the challenges that this change will help solve? What new challenges could come up with this change?
Mental healthcare IS healthcare.
Seeking mental health care should never be a source of additional distress. The process of accessing care must be as supportive and stress-free as possible. With the right systems in place, we can ensure that individuals focus on healing, not on overcoming obstacles to receive the care they need. As we move towards mental health parity, I hope we can achieve a system where seeking help is met with ease and compassion.
