Keith Crisco?- Harvard MBA, White House Fellow, Founder of Asheboro Elastics, NC Secretary of Commerce and SO much more is the member who re-invented the AAPN.? ? I first met Keith at the 2000 AAFA Annual Conference. I was matched up blind to a golf foursome with Keith. We had SO MUCH fun together. He joined AAPN and initiated a major change to our format. ? In 2003, at our conference in Montreal, someone asked a question about China. Keith said, “Mike, I just got back from 2 weeks in China, can I address this question?”. He did … for two hours. That was when we realized the best speakers in the?industry?were our own members.? ? In 2005, Keith helped organize our delegation to Hong Kong. He took us under his wing. He never missed a meeting, in fact he helped plan all of them. He invited us to El Salvador when he opened a new elastic factory there. He was high profile across everything we did.? ? In 2014, Keith passed away suddenly during his run for US Congress, to represent NC. His legacy continues with our agendas packed with experts - our members.? ? The Change??There is bottomless wisdom everywhere. You just have to ask, then listen. Keith showed us that we are all story tellers, and that we can all learn forward together. Dear Visionaries, As I reflect on the first half of the year, I realize I’ve been experiencing incredible full-circle moments lately. One such moment was going from sitting in the audience at the JCK Las Vegas show in 2019, where President Masisi of Botswana delivered a keynote sponsored by the Government of Bostwana and The De Beers Group, to participating as a member of the Black in Jewelry Coalition and Path to Retail program at the roundtable discussion with the President and seven other industry experts a few weeks ago at the debut of the House of Bostwana funded by Bostwana. It truly underscores the power of access and resources. In his 2019 keynote, President Masisi emphasized the importance of collaboration and partnership. He humorously explained that Botswana isn't giving away its diamonds for free, as I recalled in our roundtable discussion. He went on to state that they are focused on empowering the people of these ethically diamond sourced communities to unlock their full potential through education, innovation, and access to resources. For context: The Republic of Botswana is now the largest producer of diamonds by value. This positions the country as a key player in the global diamond market, reflecting its significant role in the industry. It highlights the country's economic growth and potential for further development. Here’s the simple framework I used while speaking at the roundtable: ?? Started with humor and relatability ?? Shared three key points clearly ?? Built on and connected with insights from other speakers ?? At the end, I brought the audience back to my main message ?? Left them wanting more by staying authentic throughout and using a storytelling approach to deliver my points Unlocking new opportunities for growth through collaboration and partnerships is essential. Dream big, but start by achieving attainable goals to build credibility. Build a strategy to scale through the collaborations and partnerships with those who align with your values.
