As we continue to witness the devastating impacts of Hurricane Helene across the southeast U.S. and brace for the arrival of Hurricane Milton, our hearts are with those affected. At Cotiviti, the safety and well-being of our employees remain our top priority. Our HR team has been actively reaching out to ensure everyone is safe and aware of the resources available. In response, Cotiviti Cares will be supporting recovery efforts through several incredible organizations that have mobilized to address the most imminent needs and recovery efforts: ? Direct Relief: Providing emergency medical supplies and transportation support ? Feeding America: Supplying food and essentials to affected communities ? GlobalGiving: Delivering emergency supplies to displaced people and animals ? CARE: Offering cash assistance for families' essential needs and long-term recovery ? Habitat for Humanity International: Helping rebuild homes and communities We’re also launching an employee matching gift campaign through Americares to support health needs in the hardest-hit communities. Finally, we encourage employees to use their Volunteer Time Off (VTO) to assist in local recovery efforts. Together, we can make a difference.

Like everyone, our team at Bardavon have been watching the aftermath of Hurricane Helene play out in the Southeast. There really are no words to describe the horrible devastation. The heroic stories of rescue and recovery are equally incredible and speak to the tremendous resolve of those in North Carolina, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee. This hits close to home given how many payer and provider partners we work with in the Southeast. Our client facing teams have been talking to our partners and learning secondhand of these examples where private citizens are linking arms with local and federal agencies to get relief to those in the direst situations. The stories really are remarkable. One example I thought I'd share is Carolina Aviators, who we learned about from one of our partners. The group is made up of private citizens/pilots, flying 50-100 flights a day into the most remote areas that FEMA is yet to get to, air dropping tons of water (literally), medical supplies and food. A few dollars can go a long way -- I'd ask our peers in the #workerscompensation industry to follow Bardavon's lead, (especially vendors with resources) to consider Carolina Aviators worthy cause (GoFundMe details linked below), &/or donations to FEMA approved organizations like the American Red Cross, World Central Kitchen and many others. https://lnkd.in/gFWgMX4a

I apologize for this (somewhat) non-business-related post, but the past week or so has been tough across the Southeast U.S., and now Florida is facing a Category 5 hurricane with 160 mph winds. The situation is dire, and I’m extremely disappointed with two things: government response and media coverage. I don’t intend to get political, but people are truly suffering, and FEMA has fallen incredibly short. The taxpayers deserve better. Private organizations like Samaritan's Purse are stepping in, with countless individuals donating their time and money to help. Also, special thanks to Starlink for getting satellite equipment on the ground as soon as possible and working to accelerate direct cell-to-satellite capabilities for those in need. Communications are beginning to be restored with Starlink backhauls (and lots of generators). What’s even more concerning is the lack of media attention on these issues. There are people who have been missing since the storm, bodies still being recovered, homes destroyed, and basic needs unmet. Private organizations are even buying body bags from Amazon.com. The public isn’t getting the full picture, so please spend some time independently exploring the issues. If you can donate your time or money to help those affected, please do. It's frustrating that in a country as powerful and wealthy as the U.S., resources aren't reaching those who need them most, which is why I felt compelled to share this. From a business perspective, communications may be slowed or delayed for those of us in Florida as we prepare for the storm and deal with the aftermath. So please bear with us. Two days after Hurricane Milton made landfall in Florida as a Category 3 storm, at least 16 lives have been lost, and over two million people remain without power. The need for assistance is immense. We've already given flight to responders from six relief partners to reach Florida, but we need to rush many more helping hands to provide urgent support. Our thoughts are with the people affected by Hurricane Helene and the people who are on the ground, helping with rescue, recovery, and relief efforts. Space systems represent a small but important part of the response: #GPS is providing invaluable location and navigation information to first responders, those repairing lines and delivering supplies, and more. Apple’s Emergency SOS service is allowing people to let loved ones know they are ok. Mary Beth Skylis's backpacker.com article described Mollie Dembek’s experience: “…we were able to get turn-by-turn directions from my friend using my Garmin inReach. I was able to communicate with friends and family using my Garmin and led seven people to safety because of the technology. I do not think the image I am sharing does justice to show the overwhelming impact that hurricane Helene had on the Appalachian region. That swath of land is mountainous and remote to begin with, but people have lived in those mountains for generations. There was little to no warning for what they were about to experience, when the hurricane hooked east and stalled over the mountains, dumping out 40 trillion gallons of water over the region (1 gallon = 3.785 litres). Entire cities and towns have been washed away. The flood waters tore houses from their foundations, crumbled roads, and ripped every kind of vegetation out by the root, leaving the area vulnerable to mudslides. An already remote area, now with washed out roads, it is nearly inaccessible. Amazing civilian groups are utilizing personal helicopters, drones, small airplanes, offroad vehicles, and even mules to transport lifesaving supplies to the people that have been otherwise cut off from civilization. The death toll is at over 220 and rising. It is expected to continue as there are many people who rescue efforts have not yet been able to reach, and countless more missing who may have been swept away in the flood waters. This is about human life. If you are in a position to do so, please consider donating supplies to your local organizations that are assisting in the relief efforts. Many are providing lists of the items desperately needed. Cold weather is expected to hit the mountains this coming week. Monetary contributions can also be made. If you are able to go and physically assist, there is no such thing as too much help. No one will be in the way, they need all hands on deck to save these lives. Hurricane Helene has wrecked the South East United States. From FL and GA to SC, NC, and beyond, this storm will forever be remembered as one of the most deadly in our country's history. Hurricanes affect beach communities, not mountain communities. This isn't supposed to happen in the mountains to cities like Asheville, NC. Except, perhaps, once every 1000 years. That's what Asheville, NC and surrounding communities now face, that 1 in a 1000 year event. Roads washed away. Entire towns like Chimney Rock, NC swept off the mountainside. Residents left with nothing - no power, no cell service, no water, dwindling food. This is personal. Members of Cattie & Gonzalez can tell you stories of years past when hurricanes have altered our lives. Victims have endured devastating losses, primarily by people lacking the means to rebuild. For some, they will be starting life all over again from square one.
