As someone who designed HVAC systems in Texas, where heat pumps are ubiquitous, I find it very interesting that heat pumps are getting so much attention by policy makers and investors. Its a fairly simple technology; you just take an air conditioning system, add a reversing valve in the refrigerant loop, and then you have a heater. Basically, all a heat pump is is an air conditioning unit with the ability to run in reverse. Right now, they are the most efficient way to heat a home, but their effectiveness declines in extremely cold temperatures. In a cold climate, you would still want to have a resistence heater, boiler, or furnace as a backup. My professional engineer license was awarded with a specialization in HVAC and refrigeration systems. Feel free to ask if you want to know more about how these systems work. #hvac #heatpump #refrigeration #energyefficiency #environment #climatechange #technology #engineering

Great news! Trane has introduced Propane (R290) heat pumps, a major step towards the decarbonization of existing US building stock. Heat pumps using R-290 as refrigerant with a GWP=3 and 140F water temperature at 5F outdoor temperature is the way to go before we get to CO2 heat pumps (GWP=1 and 180F water at 5F) in the near future. Compared to the current offerings of heat pumps with R-454B and R32 (GWP=467/700 respectively) refrigerants and very low-grade heat during cold weather, this is a game changer. However, this good news is for Europe only. We need to decarbonize the US, not just Europe. It's high time Trane introduced this in the US, too, given that US manufacturers can decarbonize in Europe. I'm calling on Trane to give us an answer and urging DOE and other federal agencies to implement some serious regulation on heat pumps. Let's hope we see this technology soon in the US.

Questions to Ask Bill’s When Replacing an HVAC System 1. What Are the Current System's Efficiency and Performance? Your technician from Bill's Heating and Air Conditioning can assess your old system's efficiency and help you understand how upgrading to a new one can lead to cost savings over time. Many of the newer HVAC systems have unique energy and cost-saving features. 2. Is It Also Time to Upgrade My Ductwork? Ductwork plays a significant role in the HVAC system's performance. One of Bill's technicians can inspect your existing ducts to determine if repairs or replacements are necessary. 3. What Advanced Features Are Available in New HVAC Systems? Modern HVAC systems offer innovative features like smart thermostats, zoning options, and variable-speed technology. 4. Can I Opt for a Zoned System? Zoned HVAC systems, like the ones from Mitsubishi, allow you to control different areas of your home independently, maximizing comfort and energy efficiency. Inquire whether zoning is a viable option for your home. 5. How Much Can I Expect to Save on Energy Bills? Replacing an old, inefficient HVAC system with a new one can result in significant energy savings. 6. What Is the Installation Timeline? Understanding the time required for installation helps you plan for any inconvenience and ensures a smooth transition from the old to the new HVAC system. We'll let you know what to expect! 7. Are There Any Tax Credits Available for Energy-Efficient Systems? The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) includes tax credits that reward homeowners for purchasing qualifying high-efficiency HVAC systems, including furnaces, ACs, heat pumps, fans, and more. Check with your local energy company; installing energy-efficient HVAC systems may qualify you for other tax credits or financial incentives. #QuestionsforNewHVACInstall #billsheatingair #HVAC #LincolnHVAC

???????????????? ???? ???????? ?????????? Ever wondered what all those HVAC terms mean? We've got you covered! Here's a handy glossary to help you understand the jargon: ?? **BTU (British Thermal Unit)**: A measurement of heat energy. One BTU is the amount of energy needed to raise the temperature of one pound of water by one degree Fahrenheit. ?? **SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio)**: A rating that measures the efficiency of air conditioners. The higher the SEER, the more energy-efficient the unit. ?? **AFUE (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency)**: This rating measures the efficiency of furnaces. A higher AFUE percentage indicates a more efficient furnace. ?? **Thermostat**: A device that regulates the temperature of a space by controlling the HVAC system. ?? **Ductwork**: The system of ducts that distribute air throughout a building. ?? **Refrigerant**: A substance used in cooling mechanisms, such as air conditioners and refrigerators, to absorb and release heat. ?? **Heat Pump**: A device that transfers heat from one place to another, used for both heating and cooling homes. ?? **Air Handler**: The indoor part of an air conditioning or heat pump system that moves air through the ductwork. ?? **Compressor**: The part of the HVAC system that pressurizes and circulates refrigerant. ?? **Evaporator Coil**: The part of the air conditioner or heat pump that absorbs heat from the air inside your home. Keep this glossary handy next time you’re dealing with HVAC issues, and you'll sound like a pro! #HVAC #HomeImprovement #EnergyEfficiency
