?? Benchmark Minerals’ latest article (https://lnkd.in/dTtGJhs9) on dry electrode manufacturing highlights an exciting shift that could reshape battery production costs as we know them. Cutting down on solvent use in electrode manufacturing doesn’t just slash expenses—it also addresses major logistical and environmental challenges linked to drying slurries. In traditional battery production, drying the electrode slurry is one of the most floor-intensive and costly steps. Moving to dry electrode manufacturing means huge savings in capital and energy costs. Tesla has been one of the pioneers in the dry electrode field. However, there is a second approach: leaving and handling the electrode slurry as a paste, which also can skip the drying step. Companies like FREYR, with 24M, have shown promise in exploring these methods. BUT, and there is a huge but. FREYR recently announced stepping back from their collaboration with 24M, and we’re seeing a shift in where the industry’s confidence lies: towards dry electrode technology. But what comes logically after this? The next thing they will go after is dry rooms. While minimizing dry room space is key to cost efficiency, fully dry processing in controlled environments could actually improve cell lifespan by protecting sensitive battery materials. Achieving that delicate balance—maximizing dry room efficiency while integrating critical steps—will be crucial. Looking even further ahead, eliminating the formation step is another intriguing frontier. This would require precise control of artificial SEI (solid electrolyte interphase) formation, a complex but potentially game-changing advance. We’re beginning to see hints of this through new cathode additives that could help combat lithium inventory loss. The battery industry is evolving rapidly, and the strides we’re making today could pave the way for more sustainable, resilient energy storage solutions tomorrow. ????

Many of large industrial, battery plants, chemical facilities, food processing facilities, etc. are chosing New Gen Glass Fiber Rebars, due to being noncorrosive (pH2-pH13), Green and sustainable aspects of it. In addition since it is nonconductive, it does not interfere with the wireless devices, robots, etc. The wireless signals will not be blocked by the GFRP rebars (Steel rebars due to being conductive, will ground the signals or deflect them) and that assures a smooth communication path with all the automatiation equipment in the new facilities!

If you follow the stock market, you've seen how every publicly-traded electrolyzer company (perhaps with an exception or two) is unprofitable. Look deeper, and you'll often see that some companies increase sales y-o-y only to become even more unprofitable. I can only speculate on what's happening, but my guess is that not only are the existing electrolyzer technologies too expensive, but the manufacturing processes to make them are also too expensive to scale. What's needed is a new approach: Develop a better electrolyzer using only low-cost materials with robust supply chains, while simultaneously developing high-speed manufacturing processes to produce these electrolyzers at multi-GW scale in small-footprint, low-CAPEX factories. https://lnkd.in/eRRKSNvP
