I have 2 reasons or maybe I should call them motivators as to why I have started working 50% again after losing my oldest son almost 11 months ago and they are not financial gain or personal succes. The first is because I want to support my colleagues and my team at Velleman Group nv as a token of my gratitude for supporting me in this darkest moment of my life. The second is because I have the opportunity to reach out to schools and supporting organizations and see how we can contribute to improve the tools and projects teachers can use to motivate their pupils for STEAM, while trying to link STEAM with physics, history, geography, languages and so on. Over the last 1,5 year, but mainly these last couple of months, I was lucky to meet people like Tineke Tonnard, Geraldine Heyerick, Johan Claeys, Hulders Bruno, Stijn Ceuppens and organizations like Brightlab and so many others to whom I sincerely apologize for not mentionning them because I should. I believe that their never ending efforts and drive, make a difference for all those youngsters, trying to find their way in a world that is far from ideal. Being able to contribute just so little as I do, helps me getting up and back to work. I hope that if I can help creating opportunities for these pupils to realize their dream in any way they want, I help them being happy with who they are. Maybe it's naive and foolish, but that's the way I feel. Unfortunately, just improving education is often not enough to help all children. Burn-out, depression and suicide are ever increasing amongst young people. I'm not an expert, but some even say that midlife crisis is shifting from middle aged people to teenagers and grown ups in their early twenties. Although, also in these situations, a lot of people do their utmost, there are not enough resources. That is why, we are organizing a benefit for Centrum ter Preventie van Zelfdoding. They are 24/7 ready to answer calls, chats and mails from people who don't see a way out anymore https://lnkd.in/e9sE8UJu . Donating to them, helps them training more volunteers to assist people in their darkest hours. They were in fact the last to talk to my son before he left us. Rouxmember, which is a contraction of DJ Roux, referring to the colour of his hair and of course remember, will take place on February 28th. You can find all info on https://rouxmember.be/ If you feel like donating to the center, you can do so on https://lnkd.in/eq4hVQBU . All gifts are very welcome and highly appreciated, because no one should feel the pain and sorrow we feel. Centrum ter Preventie van Zelfdoding

As a former athlete and someone who still finds joy in lacing up and hitting the field and court, I know firsthand how sports can shape our lives, teaching us teamwork, perseverance, and grit. But as much as sports bring us together, they also come with risks, particularly when it comes to Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). That's why today's announcement is incredibly close to my heart. I’m thrilled to share that Avive Solutions Inc. is partnering with Ruqayya Gibson, Co-founder of The Damani Gibson Foundation and their incredible athlete ambassador and Alabama Crimson Tide’s rising quarterback,Jalen Milroe, to donate Avive Connect AEDs to schools and sports teams in need. This initiative is about more than just providing state-of-the-art AEDs—it’s about creating a culture of preparedness that extends beyond the sidelines, onto the field, and into our communities. Jalen Milroe’s dedication to using his platform for good inspires us all. Together, we’re aiming to protect the dreams of young athletes and ensure every team and school is equipped with the tools to save lives. Early defibrillation can increase survival rates by up to 70%, and with Avive’s cutting-edge REALConnect? technology, we’re ensuring these devices are always ready, always connected, and always reliable. This cause reminds me why I’m so passionate about what we do at Avive. It’s not just about innovation; it’s about impact. When seconds matter, preparation saves lives. Let’s bring this conversation to every school and every field—because every heartbeat counts. https://lnkd.in/e4TW6ejz #SuddenCardiacArrest #AEDsSaveLives #AviveSolutions #DamaniGibsonFoundation #SportsSafety #PreparednessOnAndOffTheField

Launching Word of Mouth Co-Op Magazine has been an incredible journey! Over the past few months, I’ve had the privilege of connecting with so many inspiring individuals—activists, mutual aid groups, business owners, professors, travelers, parents, doctors, book lovers, and creatives. Each conversation has given me a deeper understanding of what community means to different people, and what’s most powerful is how everyone is eager to share their skills, resources, and knowledge. It’s been both empowering and humbling to realize that my search for the meaning of community is shared by so many. Here’s how the journey has unfolded so far: First hurdle: Gauging interest? ? Second hurdle: Collecting content? ? Now, we’ve hit our first real challenge. We thought our next step would be designing the magazine pages, but as it turns out, we’re facing a bigger hurdle—ensuring that our designers and artists are fairly compensated for their hard work. While we value donations of time and services, we are committed to paying our contributors fairly and not taking advantage of their generosity. Third hurdle: Finances to support this vision. We need to ensure we have the resources to bring the heart of the magazine to life through art and design. Luckily, we’ve found an incredible opportunity: the Imagination Fund, which offers grants ranging from $1k to $10k. This could be a game-changer for Word of Mouth Co-Op Magazine. (By the way, applications are open until October 11th if you want to apply too!) Now, I’d love to hear from you: What does community mean to you? How do you see yourself as an active participant in your community? And while you’re reflecting on that, I have one small favor. If you find this project impactful, resourceful, or even just interesting, please support us by voting for our proposal in the Imagination Fund! Just click the link, and give our proposal a little heart at the top right corner. Your vote will make a difference in helping us secure the funds to upgrade our equipment, fairly compensate our team, and continue bringing community to life across platforms and in print. Let’s take one more step toward this shared vision together! https://lnkd.in/eXd93gfA

Do you like the Donor’s Choose platform that lets you fund specific teachers’ requests for material help for their classrooms? Then you will likely love this as well. The amazing Gisele Garraway and team have created a platform to help working families with non-cash requests such as gas cards, laptops, or work uniforms. These contributions can help more families find their way to financial sustainability. Yes, we ALSO need more systemic, policy-based solutions. But in the meantime, this is something all of us who are financially secure can do to help. If you have 5 minutes please listen to Gisele’s talk. And then check out the Thrivefunds platform!
If you've got 5 minutes, please take a listen to my recent presentation. I had the privilege of sharing the thrivefunds pitch with the beloved Praxis community in Napa. Onward!

Binoculars raised, searching the horizon for something extraordinary... ???? I caught myself doing exactly this last weekend. I was in a wildlife hide, scanning the distant shores of the loch… when this characterful little robin boldly hopped up to join us, stealing the show - right under our noses. ??? It reminded me of conversations I often have with busy founders. We can get caught up looking so far ahead at big goals and challenges that we miss celebrating the small wins and opportunities right in front of us. Sometimes the most significant progress isn't in those far-off targets, but in the small steps we're already taking. What might you notice if you took a moment to appreciate what's closer to home today? ?????? Want to talk about finding better balance between the big picture and daily progress?
