Why review your Medicare elections every year? Because Part D plans can change the drugs they cover, and Medicare Advantage plans can change their provider networks as well as your costs and other provisions. Open enrollment is coming up in a few weeks. Plan to compare plans and reevaluate your coverage.

FAQ of the Week Q. Can our plan allow election changes when requests are made after open enrollment has ended but before the new plan year has begun? A. Generally, yes. Cafeteria plan rules do not prohibit election changes for a plan year that has not yet begun. Therefore, most cafeteria plans are drafted to allow employees to change their elections for the new plan year for any reason when a request is made within a reasonable time before the start of the new plan year. Although technically changes could be allowed at any time before elections are in force and coverage is active, most plans provide a more limited corrections window after open enrollment to reduce the administrative complexities that often accompany last minute requests. Once the plan year has begun and coverage is in force, cafeteria plan election change or status change rules must be followed.

There are 90 days until Tuesday November 5th - Election Day. My prediction for 2024: Consequences. This election cycle is certainly unprecedented in many ways. The candidates for President, Senate, House of Representatives and other down ballot races highlight the increasing demand for representation across different social and economic strata. According to the Pew Research Center voter engagement in 2024 is similar to the 2020 and 2016 election cycles. Campaigns are connecting with voters ensuring voices are heard from across the country and the economy is unsurprisingly the top issue for most voters. Polling in battleground states where the Presidential election will be decided still show a tight race and control of Congress equally close. Our firm is committed to ensuring our clients voices are heard in this evolving political landscape. We understand the importance of mobilizing support for our client’s interests. We are actively monitoring the election to position our clients strategically and help them navigate the complexities of advocacy and policy-making. With this year being an election year, a lot of clients have been asking questions around what to expect from the markets and how they will perform. Surprisingly the elections don't have as big of an impact on the markets as you might think. Over the past century the S&P 500 has had a positive return in 74% of election years with an average return of 7.11% Statistics show that the calendar year following the election still has an average return of 5.75% If a republican is elected after a republican the avg return is 8.21% If a democrat is elected after a democrat the avg. return is 10.37% If a republican is elected after a democrat the avg. return is 8.92% If a democrat is elected after a republican the avg. return is -6.52% The biggest thing is having a long term strategy that fits you and your goals so that one event doesn't derail your entire plan.
