Edwards on "Community Building in a Digital World: Fostering Meaningful Online Connections." NGE Labor and Employment Partner Jon Ksiazek was quoted in the Law360 article, “Robust Pay Equity Clauses Grab Spotlight In $15M Snap Deal.” This article discusses how Snap Inc. reached a $15 million settlement with California's Civil Rights Department to resolve sex bias allegations following a three-year investigation. The investigation found that women at this technology company were paid less, faced unwelcome sexual advances, and experienced retaliation after raising complaints. The multimillion-dollar settlement requires Snap to hire an independent consultant to review policies surrounding pay and promotion, appoint a third-party monitor to oversee compliance, and commit to implementing pay transparency practices, potentially setting a precedent for future pay equity laws. ? I've been asked a few times in recent years whether employees truly care about their company's mission, values, and strategy. I've become more articulate in how I respond to this question beyond emphatically blurting out, "Yes, yes they do!" A company's mission statement isn't just words. It should illustrate to employees, customers, and investors the company's purpose and a vision of its top priorities. According to Quantum Workplace research, the mission of an organization (and its values) are the top way employees experience its culture. ? Do we practice what we preach? ? Do our decisions make sense? ? Are employees at all levels of the company aligned? ? Are our top priorities really what we say they are? When a company operates out of sync with its mission, or when the mission statement becomes meaningless words, employees take note...as do customers and investors. There is so much more to say about the topic of parental leave in the U.S. As workplaces look to evolve their benefits (and hopefully they do), one small aspect is ensuring the company's purpose and its values match how it supports its employees.
