What are your thoughts? You’re at work in a clinic, a FQHC, the power goes out. You’re expected to attempt examining patients (pediatric patients), in pitch dark, no windows in rooms. The medical assistant comes with a flash light. What do you do? Me: Referred the patient to urgent care or ED as I couldn’t effectively do anything for them. My supervising MD: Well it depends, in this case, I agree, you did the right thing, but there are some cases where you can examine the patient…….for example, a rash…… Me: ??, whaat! You can’t effectively examine a rash in the pitch dark using a flashlight. Are you serious? Please just know, when the poser goes out, because I’m hearing it happens often here, know that I will not attempt examining patients in the dark.
