Snakeheads, despite their beauty, are known for their aggressive nature and invasive tendencies. They're not the ideal tropical fish for a peaceful aquarium environment. Piranhas, although popular in the Midwest, are illegal in some places. Their reputation precedes them, and it's not for being friendly. Lastly, the channel catfish. A personal anecdote - as a kid, I bought one from Pier 1 Imports, only to watch it grow and consume everything in my aquarium. Remember, a harmonious aquarium is a happy aquarium. This report outlines key trends that will shape the next generation of zoos and aquariums. From larger, more natural habitats to a focus on regional conservation efforts, there’s a strong commitment toward enhancing animal wellbeing and guest experience. The integration of universal design principles and sustainable practices will also play a key role in creating accessible, climate-positive spaces for everyone. ? We’re studying this work closely and discussing which aspects are most relevant to us here at the Dallas Zoo. This is an exciting time as we look to the future ourselves, with the multi-phased campus update plan that already has construction underway, and we continue our commitment to conservation, accessibility, and sustainability. ? Often, snail eggs and other critters hitch a ride on these plants, sneaking into your aquarium unless you've given the plant a thorough rinse or quarantine. Live rock can also be a sneaky invader, with its many holes and caves providing perfect hideouts for various creatures. Remember, these stowaways can survive for quite a while out of water, so that rock from your friend's aquarium might have brought along some unexpected company.
